I still maintain his playing weight, which is currently 97kg, is too high.
Not even monster sized mids (6ft'4) like Cripps, Fyfe or Bontempelli are near that playing weight.

If Dangerfield brought his playing weight back down to what it was during his best years, the chances of sustaining niggling soft tissue issues would fade away.
Agree, way to big atm

They may be when they're 30+
Senior was over 100 kg at shorter height 185 cm.
Danger is 189 cm. Issue may be that he should no longer be a mid primarily.

We actually need him in the midfield, because we have no mids. Why we didn't go hard on cerra astounds me, we had Clark, Duncan, Narkle and blicavs to give up for him

TPP and you we didn’t have the trade currency Carlton did.

They wanted Clark, throw in Narkle and Duncan or blicavs, carlton only had their first rounder

Narkle adds nothing to the trade and neither Duncan or Blicavs would agree to a trade (nor would or should the club put them up), plus, we couldn't afford the 800k or thereabouts he wanted.

Why did the club bother getting Cameron then, to finish 5-12???
It's no good having Hawkins and Cameron if you have a weak midfield and ruck division.

Whats the point of having blicavs in the team if he's not playing down back, Duncan has being playing like a millionaire this year,
I always thought the club was bigger than the individual, yet in today's culture clubs can't trade out players

Then don’t play him ffs. All the talk of resting players so they are good come finals is worthless if a guy has genuine niggles and they still play him anyway. Seriously this is clown school stuff.

Gotta say this 'Danger has a niggle' stuff is getting a bit old too. This is professional footy, everyone's got a niggle.

I'm sure there's some legitimacy to it, but this is three straight years of this now. 2020 was the groin, 2021 was the groin again and then the ankle, and then the hand...and now he's got a calf issue.

Seems to only be talked about after a poor performance too, when he's up and going the injury is non-existent.

As you said if he's not right don't play him. Simple as that. It's the AFL, once you cross that white line you declare yourself fit.

Broken ribs at some point too. Never missed a game. But there’s always something, and yes you are right, it only ever gets brought up after a loss or he has a bad game.

I remember selwood saying he never wants to miss a game, but who’s keeping his ego in check and telling him he should take a weeks rest for his own good if he isn’t right? Or doesn’t anyone have the guts to tell him?

Unfortunately it's become very very predictable. Immediately after a poor individual game / bad loss, we will then get told he's carrying something. It's one thing for fans to not want to accept reality, but it's more concerning if the club don't.

I think the answer is simple; he's not the same player anymore. In reality he hasn't been for a while. He's just turned 32, and time catches everyone. He has become a burst player with the occasional big game, and he's not alone in this, but defensively he is now a complete train wreck.

Agree

He was never going to have a prolonged career/prime, and I've never understood the talk (admittedly media as well) that he could play till his late 30s. His style isn't conducive to it. He's a bash and crash contested footballer with poor footskills, it just doesn't work.

His body takes too much punishment and then when he's not the same physically, he doesn't have the fundamental skills to fall back on like a Pendlebury, or an Ablett, or Hodge.

Hasn't been the same player since 2019, and we've been hearing excuses for it ever since rather than accepting that maybe age has caught up with him.

It's not a post-hoc justification.

Defensively has always been a train wreck. If he isn't in the top 5 players on the ground then he is a liability with the amount he gets burnt by his direct opponent. Plays a very selfish brand of football

the hawthorn mids during the premiership days got told a rule that always intrigued me.. apparently they lost a KG of playing weight for every year over i think 28 it was??? seemed to help them go ok....
Cats have a similar rule I think. They build up to a specific age then bring it down. I don't know that danger has been following this

He needs to be a forward that bursts into the guts not a mid that bursts into the forward line, the guys 32 his body just cant do that predominant mid role anymore, the issue becomes playing forward he really just gets in the way of Jez and Hawk and applies zero defensive pressure.

Just an observation but power mids don’t seem to age as well as your more vanilla work rate types , something clubs should think about when contracting those superstar types if they are 26+
