Difference is other clubs may think twice about giving up an early pick for Dangerfield in the draft.

The PSD is a free hit, no opportunity to draft young talent, so more clubs would be ready to pick Dangerfield ahead of Geelong.

Don't know what would achieve the deal, but it could be a good move.
Can a player go in the PSD if he is drafted in the ND? Surely the AFL wouldn't allow that.

I know a lot of people have been hot on Murdoch as the player to be traded to us if such a deal should eventuate, but the thing is both the club and the supporters are happy to trade him. Why is that? Why would both a club and their supporters be happy to trade someone out? It's because they don't rate him and they'd know a lot more about him than any of us would. I still think Gregson should be the guy thrown into the deal.

2016 first round is an unknown quantity. Could be as high as pick 1 or as low as pick 18 (or worse if there's any compo/priority picks).
It is but it still has high value to on-trade (not sure if allowed) or at the very least we can make a decent guess as to how the Cats go.

Sadly, I reckon they will make one last charge into the finals before falling out again the year after, meaning next years pick will be around 12-14 imo.

Yes they could. That's how negotiation tactics work. Well they do when I'm dealing with unions. They say something ridiculous, you say something ridiculous. If you counter with something reasonable they'll want to meet in the middle and if you don't budge they start saying you're not willing to negotiate, won't compromise, inflexible, this isn't a good faith negotiation etc.

I hate playing that "game" but if you don't you get shafted.

We needed to counter with 3 first round picks or get stuffed. I hope we did.

Maybe even this years first, next years first, Murdoch and a second rounder. It sounds ludicrous but that's how this shit works.
I cannot imagine the club starting off so aggressively, but you're right. They should have! I always tend to have low expectations, so my expectation is we'll get a trade that satisfies fans at the bare minimum, which is 2 first rounders.
According to the Father Son points table, Pick 5 is worth two Pick 19s
Pick 1 is worth two pick 9s
Also, Pick 9 = Pick 13 + Pick 50, so a pick upgrade of our first round pick is worth shit all
Is that all? I'd trade 2 late first rounders for pick 5 in a heartbeat.

Would you trade Callan Ward (19) and Alex Rance (18) for Jarrad Grant (5) (or Rhys Palmer, or Lachie Henderson, which were the two following picks) in the 2007 AFL Draft?

Luke Shuey (18) and James Strauss (19) for Michael Hurley (5) in 2008

Ben Griffiths (19) and Nat Fyfe (20) for Ben Cunnington (5) in 2009

There's a reason the picks are valued as such, some late picks can be gold, some early picks can be shit, but sometimes two late picks delivers better value than one early pick

Geelong did, so we need to go equally the other way.

He signed a 3 year deal mid year, bought a house in Geelong and got engaged to his girlfriend in Feb, would be unlikely to want to move but he's one of few that majority of Geelong Supporters don't rate overly highly, doesn't rack up possessions and his ball use leaves alot to be desired.
Nothing out of the club has said Murddoch will be involved in a trade for Dangerfield, that's just a rumour started on BigFooty which extends to pretty much every SA player on our list...

Can't see Geelong letting Gregson go after investing 20 games into him, especially when he fills a need in the forward line.

But that then begs the question, are Geelong serious about trading for Dangerfield, or do they expect us to get shafted in the deal with you guys only giving up peanuts? If you can't give up Gregson for Dangerfield, that says a lot about your club's attitude to play ball.

Says alot about Adelaide Fans being unrealistic, that's about it.. Not going to trade away arguably our most promising young player in the middle of a rebuild.

What I want trying to be sensible

No match = #14
Trade 2016 2nd round pick + Mookay for 2015 #9
Thought to be much better draft than this one that sucks so the value of say #30 in 2016 is not miles off #9 in a crappy year. Add a senior player and that flies

We rid of ourselves of Mookay & salary

2 firsts for trading and we move on

a little bit off topic but do you think him being allowed to stay his first year back home contributed to him wanting to go 7 years later? also is Lachie Henderson's manager the same as Dangerfield's?

Acceptable trades are:

- 9 + Motlop or Cockatoo
- 9 + 2016 1st
- 9 + 2nd + a quality young player.

Good trades add a 2nd rounder or at least a swap of this years 2nds to the equation but I'm realistic enough to know we won't get anywhere near a good trade. However, anything less than the above is unacceptable.

Oh, and I've not seen one 'compo combo' that doesn't result in Geelong winning massively and the Crows still losing by a long way.
That's a fair deal .....i'd take option 1
