Pick 9 and Murdock is my call
Suspect it won't get any better than that in any significant way.

I'm starting to believe, and accept, that if we match he'll get to geelong for free via one of the drafts. I'd still want us to match and 'fight it out' though.

Probably leaning to Carl's 'see how it all plays out line' after we take the compo.

2 x 1st round picks would be ideal however I think it will be this years pick 9 plus player and I doubt that it will be Cockatoo Collins

WW might be right, we might squeeze out next years 2nd round as well
Murdoch is no improvement on Hendo and would be way behind Jaensch. We can do so much better. He is the steak knives with 2 first rounders not one.

I'm still not getting Geelong's moved ATM. If we matched they were going to have enough trouble getting Henderson and maybe Selwood in, now they're adding Zac Smith to it.

Either they're delusional in thinking they can get everyone, or they know we're not gonna match.

Considering we have Riley Knight and Rory Atkins as a result of the Kurt saga, I have faith that whatever the club ends up doing, it will work out. The key will be keeping players from here on and maybe recruiting a big name over the next couple years.
As a result of ? We picked up Atkins in 2012 with a pick we already had and picked up Knight in 2013 with a pick that we already had.

The Kurt Tippett scenario had nothing to do with selecting those players.

I am one on this board that doesn't rate Jaensch so not a good example from my view

Murdock is a 50 game player, has dine his apprenticeship and his best footy is still in front of him

I'm not convinced that either Jaensch or Hendo will continue to improve

You have a little of Vaders shiny toy-itis imo. Why will Murdoch improve more than those 2? Not a heap younger and our boys are superior currently.

If you accept that trade you are rolling over. No point matching for a tiny reward. If We match we go for the payoff. Otherwise why bother.

Well, the wording might have been a little muddled, but I was trying to reference our clubs ability to pick up a Riley Knight and a Rory Atkins, despite such a late position in the draft. It's great recruitment and something that gives me faith that the Dangerfield deal, no matter which way it goes, will still see us ending up with something worthwhile.

We need better than worthwhile we need elite and premiership building.

agree anything less than the equivalent of 2 firsts is a fail ... especially given that these picks are quite shit ... would need a decent player.

I'm guessing the thinking is, at least with Atkins, is we probably wouldn't have taken a chance on a guy with his supposed attitude issues at the time in the draft unless we were missing picks and going for the best guys available.

I would rather a 1st round pick an Cockatoo. It gives us two top 10 picks essentially which is a fair value and Cockatoo fills a need. This is the absolute best case scenario for us.

Having said that, this is not happening. We have more chance of getting 2 first round picks especially since Geelong traded up specifically because they targeted the kid last year.

Don't be surprised if this turns into a three way trade, something like:

Carlton
Gain: Geelong's second pick 2015 (pick 28) plus first and second picks 2016,
Lose: Henderson and Menzel, second pick 2015 (pick 20)

Geelong
Gain: Dangerfield, Hendsrson
Lose: First and second picks 2015 (picks 9 and 28) plus first and second picks 2016

Adelaide
Gain: Pick 9, Menzel plus Carlton's second pick 2015 (pick 20)
Lose: Dangerfield

We still get significant unders but we won't end up with much better.

Cannot trade more than one future pick.

I seem to be in a support jaensch crusade here but what do you mean about continuing to improve? I'd he never improved and we had his performances in the last year and a half for the next 6 years I'd jump at it. He was fantastic before his injury. 7th in 2014 b&f and I thought I read he was high in the 2015 count when he did his knee this year.

He has actually been improving in the defensive side anyway. Fair enough that some think he's a knob but on field he's been great.

Jaenschy's 2014 was fantastic.

Unfortunately he might have done his dash off field...
