Some amazing delusion from Cats fans in this thread.

Once the Crows match (and they will) they will hold all the aces. Not Geelong, not Danger. The Crows.

Geelong lose all bargaining power and they will either pay up big time to get Dangerfield to the club or they wont get him at all.
This has probably already been commented on but you are completely right.

We either get a trade for a return better than the compo pick or force Geelong to break their own rules and price danger out of the market for other clubs via the draft.

I reckon Geelongs tactical response to this (if they aren't willing to make him so prohibitive to others) will be to ask paddy to come out and say "I'm only playing for the cats" to scare off the Brisbane and carltons of the world that might consider taking a punt.

Hi Marty
Hope you are well, as I hear the alex is not well.
You were one of the few posters that claimed danger was leaving, so you are to be commended on that. However until we actually trade for Danger neither of us are right or wrong. Lets see how this plays out. People are saying that he will end at Carlton or Hawthorn. So we could be both right.
not sure I have seen a melt to date, but it has been good chatting
Have a great day

Hey,

how were you feeling when Ablett left??

What sort of offer would hawthorn put up? If we still could match.. wonder who and what theyd put up for trade?
They'd give up more than they did for O'Rourke, which was a 1st and 2nd round pick in exchange for a 3rd round pick (admittedly not much difference between our 2nd and their 3rd). Be interesting what will happen with the ability to trade future draft picks. So reckon this year's 1st rounder plus next year's 1st rounder would be the minimum, and an exchange of other picks.

We have move than that available...
Cats have 4 mil over 2 years to play with, hence why we are into danger, selwood, Henderson, smith and allegedly Devon smith.
Genuine question. How do you know this? I recall reading reports that the Cats have a 1.3 million dollar war chest to lure Henderson and Danger. Where is the 4 million over 2 years figure coming from?

From within the club.
Cats are looking to add players in that age profile we lack, 24-27.
2 mil a year gets them.
A lot of our players have taken short term (mostly 2 years) deals on reduced coin for this to happen.
The idea is we get these players who will either take a touch less or at worst the same cash when the TV rights deal/increase salary cap comes around so for those players who took unders to then get paid what they deserve.
Cats are obviously into Danger, Henderson and Selwood. Media suggest we are also into Zac Smith and Devon Smith.

Wtf? We would be better off keeping our compensation pick (14) then getting your pick 18 as this years only compo.

We would demand a quality player as well.

Which would be matched by the crows should danger wish to pursue it, right?
Moot point.
Cats could just as easily offer 1.2/6 years.
Try reading it again. The suggestion is the Cats put forward an offer, which the Crows match.

At that point Danger is not a free agent, but just another uncontracted player. Geelong can't put in a second contract offer after the first has been matched.

I'm talking about the initial offer.

I'm fairly certain we could match a deal like 1.1/1.2 M.

We've lost so much talent in recent years and only brought in Eddie who was a bargain for 400K

Dangerfield has to agree and only wanted to go to Geelong. Apparently, Adelaide took a risk that they could retain him and not reduce the value significantly if he didn't stay after the 2015 year.

I don't think Geelong will trade Cockatoo at all. I know you want him because he will be a stud but doesn't mean Geelong have to trade him. My firm belief is that you will get draft picks.

So why are you posting I would be upset I have said he was going all along but you will be trading on your board!

It appears you are having a melt over the accuracy of my prediction, unless you are still ignorant to the fact you will be trading!

But they goes along the lines of Geelong BF Posters = Dimwits!

Rubbing salt in the wounds of supporters. I don't get it. Sorry.
Social media hasn't been great for seeing that side of football players. I think deep down we all know that they probably see us fanatics as lame and pathetic for devoting so much of our life to this "hobby." But it's not cool when it's in plain sight. Much like Tex and Jaenschy and their "Enjoy your 9-5" style of dealing with trolls.

It's in our best interests to match for sure should the compo not be adequate. As soon as a match is made, its back to regular trade territory as if the player wasn't a RFA. I say this is in our best interests as we believe Geelong and only Geelong are Paddy's preferred option. If it was just a Vic based club he wants to go to, then matching isn't in our best interests obviously as Carlton would get him for free, and we get nothing. Compo in that situation is preferable no matter what it is.

If paddy wanted to play hard ball, his team would indicate that while he would prefer Geelong, he has no problem going to Carlton. This is really what it hinges on. If his intentions are as clear as the Geelong faithful would have us believe and Geelong is the *only* choice, then we certainly have the power when matching as he won't drop to the draft and a trade will be done.
