You don't think he's arrogant?
Nah, I think he just can't be bothered putting in the effort to not have fun. He's confident enough in his place in the AFL ecosystem that he can afford not to worry about what killjoys would say about 'respecting the game' or whatever but I don't think that crosses into arrogance.

That's a reasonable explanation. I just see signs that he's supremely confident in himself to the point of arrogance but the great thing is he has enough self awareness to make sure that he mainly comes across as a joker/entertainer to mask it.

It takes a special talent, not just in footballing ability, but in one's ability to tread the fine line between douchebaggery and whimsy, hubris and cheeky confidence, arrogance (the FIGJAM kind) and mere arrogance commensurate with one's ability.

Exhibit A:

Feel free to add your own examples of your favourite PFD understated arrogance.

Just a bit of fun folks, try not to get fired up about it. ;)

I liked it. I don't mind a bit of arrogance on the field when it's deserved. Off the field Danger is quite humble about his prowess. But he clearly knows his status amongst other players and they know his. This was a fun bit of mind games to get in the heads of the leaders of the opposition team.

Mackie also stepped up to the plate against Freo and with 3 Premierships under his belt he has some credibility to dish it to opposition players.

Ruggles has a crack without having the runs on the board but I don't mind that. He reminds me of Scott Thompson.

Don't know about that. I think outside of Adelaide he's pretty well regarded.
I'm not so sure. Granted, I am surrounded by Adelaide supporters living in S.A. so my judgement could be clouded somewhat, but Port supporters also think he's a flog to varying degrees.

With the Foxtel ad, Craig Willis baby announcement, being seated on the throne as 'King of Geelong' on The Footy Show plus many other media appearances which could be inferred as self-indulgent, it's not a stretch to say that many non-Adelaide supporters also buy into the FIGJAM rhetoric.

Personally I like the guy. I liked him before he came to the Cats - partly on the back of his affinity with Moggs Creek and with the hope of him crossing over one day. But, he's definitely ramped up his in your face media exploits since moving back to Vic.

They are great cases in point. The reaction to these stunts has been overwhelmingly positive. Perhaps it's an Adelaide/rest of the world thing.

Not really sure what I think about Danger's perceived arrogance. Certainly some of his antics on and off the field might give that impression.

I do think he generally speaks very graciously when seriously interviewed, though. Doesn't tend to diminish others or sell his teammates short.

In the end, leaving aside his brilliance on the field, the aspect I really like about Paddy is the obvious delight he finds in now playing for the club that he has always supported.

I don't think I've ever seen another player for us so clearly stoked to be wearing the hoops while he plays his footy.

That alone really endears him to me. And I truly hope to see him in the club's colours with a premiership medal hanging around his neck one day. I think he would be totally elated to have that happen.

And if he wants to be the most arrogant sod going around on that day, I'll be quite comfortable to claim him as our very own FIGJAM.

Mackie is the best sledger at the club. Probably has the most arrogance. SJ was damn good at it too. Not sure Danger is at that level, but he is good enough to carry any arrogance.

I don't think he's arrogant at all. Arrogance is thinking your better than everyone else, and I don't think Paddy is like that. Paddy is just so good at what he does he has confidence, which idiots and lessor lights always think is arrogance. People intimidated by confidence and the skill to back it up always try to put the person down to make themselves feel better. #tallpoppysyndrome
I know the feeling. :)

What's wrong with be arrogant? I hope he thinks he is better than everyone else because um he is. Don't want him underrating his own ability as then he will start playing safe and take the game on less.

Yep. And I don't think it's particularly hard to to see that this is the case. Basic reading of the social cues he gives off renders it self-evident. The guy's just being irreverent and having fun.

Genuinely had a laugh out loud moment with Fyfe pushing him away. The pat on Sandi's bum was funny too
I just know that he was telling them to tap in his direction. THe pat for Sandi was just encouraging a team-mate. Even though Fyfe pushed him, you could see the amusement in his face.

They dont actually get annoyed at Danger. He's just a funny pest, very difficult to dislike.

I watched this. Quite entertaining. Displays Dangers competitiveness even during something that didn't ultimately matter:

He strikes me as a very bright guy who, yep, has full confidence in his abilities and is content in his own skin, and enjoys life and carries that attitude on and off the field. Nothing nasty or rude about him, just playful. I'd be surprised if many didn't warm to him. Always gives his best, works hard, works to improve his weaknesses. Likes to win but has his head screwed on and keeps perspective. Am also pleased he takes focus off Joel on and off the field. All good. Keep it up Paddy.
Re arrogance -Can't find link but my daughter follows him on Insta and he posted himself taking fish and chips to his grandmother (and her cronies) in a nursing home and captioned it 'favourite grandchild' -come at me cousins -or something like that.

Arrogance to me would refer to a player who can give it and make out like he's taking the piss, but can't take it. Gets his back up if people take the Mick out of him.

Judging by the fact that two (?) players turned up to Mad Monday with surfboards and suits, I'd say it's fairly likely that he's more the comfortable having people give it back to him.

Arrogance isn't the word. He knows he is a gun. But I don't think he places the value on that that fact others (ie gushing commentators, footy card collector types) do. So that is why he take the piss. He has a brain, and a sense of humour. I'm pretty sure he would have been annoyed/amused by the DangerWatch fiasco.

The dictionary defines arrogance as "offensive display of superiority or self-importance". Arrogance is often mistaken for confidence, and that's what Paddy Dangerfield is - confident. And confidence comes from being optimistic and positive, which Paddy oozes.

There is a difference though. There's nothing overtly aggressive or unpleasant about being confident. There is about being arrogant.

It probably depends on your personal preferences. I vastly prefer footballers who let their actions talk. A lot - but not all - of it is 'look at me' w***ery.

Don't think it's that at all to be honest.
