fu** me some of you have short memories.
Danger's finals record at Geelong (possessions and score):
2016:
35, 0.1
39, 1.0
2017:
31, 1.1
26, 4.3
24, 2.3
2018:
25, 0.1
2019:
32, 1.0
18, 0.0
27, 1.0
2020 (short games)
22, 1.0
19, 4.0
17, 0.0
12, 1.1
I should add, it was a sh*t night for every single forward on the ground bar Dustin Martin. What do you want him to do, walk on water?
He is also forced to play out of position by the fact that we don't have a good second marking tall.

All bar the last two and the SF last year. How many good finals do you think he's played for Geelong?

2017 Prelim? Starts up forward, still manages 25-odd touches and two goals in a side that gets comprehensively thumped, and it's not a "good" game? I know stats don't tell everything, but you are a very hard marker.I'd have the 2017 Prelim Final, 2019 Prelim final, and this year's Qualifying final as games where our opinions differ.
Hard to argue that he hasn’t been disappointing in many big finals. Not all, but many. I’d say most. His demeanour seems to change from my observations. Seems to be perhaps over aroused and its affecting his performance.
I thought last night after he kicked his goal that would be the settler he needed but it unfortunately wasn’t. To go pretty much unsighted, or to be fumbling, caught with the footy (as he was in the final against Port) makes you question his mental strength to play in big time matches. He has the ability but there is a definite drop off from the H&A games. Why?
Part of the issue as I see it is an apparent unpreparedness to have a defensive side to his game. If he doesn’t get the ball he’s an absolute liability as a mid. He needs to get better or be more consistent in this aspect of his game. He’s able to do it. I’ve seen it. Against WC last year he did. Is is a misguided self belief that he needs to win the game off his own boot? I don’t know but it seems that way.
Great point, but to be fair this is not limited just to Dangerfield. His style is more attacking so he isn't necessarily focused on the defensive side, which isn't a terrible thing in itself. The problem is Selwood has slowed down, Ablett got too slow so couldn't play in midfield, and other midfielders are up and down with their defensive work. When they're down, we look wide open when the opposition get the ball. Too much left to too few.
Personally I hope they readjust and let him focus on the midfield and stop expecting him to be a star forward as well. Keep it simple.
