At the start of the year, I rated the best key forwards as such.

Legends - G Coventry, J Coleman, P Hudson, T Lockett, J Dunstall, G Ablett, W Carey, L Franklin
Greats - D Lee, H Vallence, B Mohr, D Wade, J Titus, B Pratt, M Lloyd, M Richardson, P McKenna, S Rocca, S Kernahan, M Pavlich, N Riewoldt
Very Good - F Fanning, J Moriarty, P Sumich, W Tredrea, B Hall, B Fevola, B Quinlan, A Lynch, D Neitz, J Brown, M Roach, T Modra, S Beasley, K Templeton, B Taylor, M Moncrieff

Bradshaw would fit into the next tier down. This tier would include the likes of Gehrig, Loewe, O'Loughlin, Brereton, J Roughead, Longmire, Grant, Lucas, Salmon, Brownless etc
Royce?

You didn't ask me but I reckon he's a legend. However this is moreso on people who played predominantly a forward their entire career or a major chunk of it so in this instance 'very good'
I thought Hart did play forward all his career.

As a hawks supporter surprised you missed Dermie, he slots into the greats.

Franklin isn’t a legend, he slots into the greats.

Quinlan is in the greats, I’m not sure Pavlich is worthy of being with those others either.

This was not based on subjective opinion or reputations. It was based more on total goals, total games, goals per game and average scoring in the era.

I agree that Franklin is not yet a legend, my initial list was from a 'where would Franklin be rated when he retires' thread. If he retires now, he would be a Great, if he goes another 3-4 years he will likely enter Legend territory.

Dermie was a great player but only scored 2.2 goals a game. Probably due to playing CHF to Dunstall. His record is worse than Bradshaw's.

Quinlan and Pav are probably both border-line cases. In hindsight Quinlan's record is better than Pav, so they could probably swap.

Royce Hart - 2 goals per game for 187 games doesn't really make the Very Good grade. He would probably be in similar Tier as Bradshaw etc.

Loewe only has 30 goals less than Neitz, all whilst playing most of his career second fiddle to Lockett

30 less goals from 15 more games. Neitz played a few years at CHB too. From a goalkicking perspective, Neitz wins.

A bloke who kicks 75 goals in a season should have been AA IMO.
That's a ridiculous thing to say. Surely it depends what the other players in contention did that year. As it turns out, Franklin kicked 102 goals in the H&A season and Fevola kicked 99. So that would make Bradshaw the third-most prolific FF that season, a long way behind the top two. That means he probably won't make the cut. But he automatically deserved to be AA because he reached a magic quota of goals? How does that work?

Before you offer some half-baked suggestion about picking one of them at CHF to accommodate Bradshaw, bear in mind that Riewoldt also had a monster season, while actually playing CHF. So unless you jump through hoops to offer a completely confected line-up with an unrealistic number of key forwards, Bradshaw wasn't seriously in the mix. Richardson and Pavlich also had excellent seasons as mobile talls, so where does that leave Bradshaw? Kicking a magic number of goals doesn't count for shit if there were more players who were better that year.

Scott Cummings won the Coleman Medal one year and was still overlooked.

Pretty sure you'll find Lowe played more games without Plugga then with him.

Either way must have been great playing in a forward line alongside Plugger. Defenders all focus on him, let you get the easy ones.

Or alternatively the ball goes to him most of the time and you don't get as many opportunities

How many key forwards do you reckon prefer to have no support?

Is Pavlich highly rated because he carried Fremantle's forwardline for so long? Or should he be downgraded because he was the only target down there?

What scenario do you reckon would have made his life easiest?

No room for Jezza amongst all of those key forwards ???

Commendable list....but. You have Sav Rocca alongside Doug Wade as a great? Did you see Wade play? How many full forwards kicked 1000+ goals? Rocca was good to very good

He dropped some weight/condition to prolong his career with us. Knees forced that. He was massive at Brissy. Damn good KPD as well.

Still one of the best torps to watch. Mark a bit iffy and not a pressure goal, but a great moment the crowd loved. Boom.
