Recommitted Daniel Curtin [signed an extension to 2029]

The allure of success makes players more comfortable. Last year, things looked a little bleak, now Adelaide are on the up. Similar to Murphy Reid at Freo, there were rumours he didn't want to leave Melbourne but has extended because Freo look like they will be contenders.

People are way too eager these days for 2nd/3rd year players to move clubs. Getting drafted to play in the AFL at 18/19 to a different state isn't a punishment.

Curtin played 7 games last year and has so far played every game this year. He is in the bottom half of the Adelaide best 23 - because he's 20 years old and has played 21 games. Good on him for re-signing and I hope he plays every game this year and experiences finals.

There are a lot of factors involved so not sure you can just put it down to team success being the reason. Caddy just extended with Essendon too and they aren’t exactly looking like playing finals.

I mean Caddy’s from Melbourne, so that helps

The counter argument is probably more applicable to, say, a Tholstrup type. From WA, Dees not doing great, yet re-upped for another couple of years

I'd only seen flashes before the weekend. Sunday he showed impressive maturity for a 2nd year player, on top of his evident talent and athleticism

No club in that draft was picking Curtin before Harley Reid.

He went at 8. WCE could have found a way to trade up their 2nd pick from 2023 and their 2024 future picks. Big body who can play forward and back - when most of their big bodies are 30+ or eternally injured.

Certainly more of a need filled than getting Baker and Owies in 2024.

We offered GWS this years first for pick 8 so we could nab him, but they didn't bite.

Baker has been huge.
Owies was steak knives and had no effect on trying to get Curtin.

We tried to trade up offering GWS our first pick for the next year but they didn't take it.

He looks like a jet but HR was clearly the highest rated player in it.
Clearly GWS wanted a player in that draft and luckily for us they aren't fuss about pick given previously they gave up a late first rounder to just move up a few place to get Cadman.

They tried, the offered it to GWS but GWS preferred our pick swap as it kept them with 2 picks in the draft. WCE came to Adelaide with the pick swap offer too and I am so glad we said no as it would have turned out to be Curtin for one of O'Sullivan Or Jagga Smith and I'd be picking Curtin all day every day personally.

You can't pick every player in the draft. We had 1 and 30, and an attempt to trade up was rejected. What were we to do? It's not a regret, just life. Good for Adelaide, he looks a jet, though I hope the Eagles will be in his ear every year leading up to 2029.
It was 100% locked in whoever had pick 1 in that draft was taking Reid and deservedly so. Curtin is projecting like he could end up as good as Reid in my eye if he transitions to a midfield role, but at the time, he was a key defender in his draft year that teas thought might also be able to swing forward. He is developing well beyond any of that now but it was an unknown. Normally your F1 you were offering would have been like gold as most sides would have had WCE as a possible pick 1 candidate the next year. It i just that the crows got the chance to trade up to target Dan and it was absolutely a bird in the hand moment for us.

True. WC had him ranked 2nd behind Reid on talent in that draft from what I have heard, and did everything they could to get Adelaides pick to get him, including using their first the following year as a trade, guaranteed to be top 2.

I think WC should have thrown a godfather offer, three years at a mill a year, to really make him think about it.
