That's an indication that Nank is not fine. If he's as good as you're indicating, he would be ahead of Laird/Smith seeing he's now in his 3rd year on the list. Remember, we don't play senior players for experience, we play them because they're seen as the best we have, and a seriously talented kid goes past them quickly.

Really at this point, Nank is in a serious amount of strife, list wise, as is anyone who is 3+ years in and do not hold a best 22 slot.
Smith gone at years end (probably) and Laird not too far behind him.

However, it's damn hard to make a career out of being depth - especially if you're not a KP or Ruck.

Want a career, you need to hold a best 22 slot. Curtin absolutely smashing it on the wing makes it a whole lot harder for the rest of our outside mids.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about Nank

The two players in his position will be 32 and 34 at the start of 2026

Curtin shorted to $12 for the Rising Star. I got on him at the start of the year at $26, but he drifted out to the $40 range at one point.
I took him at $21; will be tempted if they offer a cash out because the competition is stiff and #VICBIAS and all that.

Really loved watching Curtin tonight. His skills were on show, Marking, Kicking, Reading the play of the game.......but there was something else. His demeaner was so confident, he seemed to have the ability to create space like the Bont and even [PLAYERCARD]Scott Pendlebury[/PLAYERCARD] so calmy. This ability will continue to improve as well. We have the makings of an elite player in Curtin.

If we were incredibly reckless, we could have given him a few cbas in q4, instead of murph
Don't be silly, what could they have possibly liked when Curtin flew in off the wing at a centre clearance, swooped on the ball, accelerated away, sidestepped with a body fake a player coming at him, took a bounce and then hit up Thilthorpe 20m out??

That was an interesting play. It was his ball to take from a long way out, but we've seen him be a bit timid in those situations before and hold back. He didn't charge for it straight away, but you could see it clicked for him that he should own that contest and when it did, we saw the result! Hopefully he gets lots of confidence out of that to be more aggressive at the loose ball

Yep. The kid is starting to realise that not only does he belong but he has the ability to be better than most others on the field.

+1 this. I have been making that point as he is realising he is physically strong and that is giving him the confidence to attack the contest and know he can dominate it. He marks the ball with an air of 'it my ball, hands off' and his field kicking is sublime and he has good football smarts.

I think it would take an injury to Ashcroft for him not to win it from here. Has been solid all year where Curtin started off slowly but has been improving each week. Curtin should definitely be top 3 though.

We luckily avoided a bullet at the Draft .....a 12th hour meeting with Curtin & Clarko, could have seen Curtin in North colours ....so yet again Nth MELB ignore Watson & Curtin, preferring Duursma

Montagna said the Roos could have some draft regret.

“I couldn’t help but feel watching him (Watson) in this first half – where he was the highest-rated player on the ground – he is going to haunt North Melbourne for a long, long time,” Montagna said. “Because he was in that draft where North Melbourne chose to take Colby McKercher and Duursma before him.

“Now Colby McKercher is odds-on to end up in Tassie – most likely – and is going to be a nice player. And Duursma, from all reports, is a bit disgruntled and not really happy and I’m not sure whether the club are in love with him and he’s in love with the club, so who knows what it looks like for him.

Zane Duursma has shown nothing at AFL level. No idea why North decided they needed him over a key position type

He will be the tallest player in every position on the ground except the ruck and maybe a fwd. He should monster them all. He also looks like he had a monster wingspan. Has very decent speed and skill. Going to be hard matchup for any opponent.

When he's moving through traffic and delivering a kick he definitely reminded me of Pendles, seems to create extra time. Aerially he reminds me of Dawson a bit. Gathering the ground ball I don't know who to compare him to but he doesn't fumble and he emerges with the ball every time. It's awesome to watch. I get the draft hype now.

Pretty sure Hird's comment was "could" play as a 4th tall .. not that he was playing as the 4th tall
That’s how I read it, also referencing earlier in the year when Curtin was plating as the 4th tall - not all at the same time but the 4th option to replace Tex Fog or RT when they went off

Theyve not drafted that well for a club loaded with top end picks

Yep, they seem to keep targeting the same type of player with early picks and then have made some super bizarre trade moves (like trading their 2025 first to get Matt Whitlock)

They've also had close to zero recent hits with later picks outside of Paul Curtis, and most of their trade ins have failed (Coleman-Jones, Tucker, Fisher, Stephenson, etc.)

Clarko will be especially pissed, he really wanted Curtin but the recruiters went with their strategy and talent order.
