He has Bont or Cripps like potential in the midfield, but for what he offers on the wing, I think we keep him there. Everyone is so quick to push every player in the midfield without thinking of what you will lose from the position you take them from. Perfect example is Rankine. Sure he did well in the midfield, but we absolutely lost out on the danger he presented in the forward 50. He scares defenders and makes them second guess themselves.
Sure he will have quiet periods, but no one else in our team has the ability to tear a game apart in a qtr as he does.
Totally agree, wing should be his primary position. Don’t think to many players will match his height, Dan will always create a mismatch which he will exploit. With more experience I think he will get forward more and kick goals.

I love the way he attacks the ball in the air and on the ground with great pace, that play against Melbourne when he sets up Rankine for a goal is unbelievable. He’s a nightmare match up for opposition wingman and could be the difference in a final

If we make the GF, i am going to lay a cheeky $50 on him to win the norm smith

I made this bet during the week $15 @$81.

If we do make the GF he will be paying a lot less than $81

Remember, gamble responsibly.

Seeing as y'all liked the other one, I just saw this beauty again. I seriously doubt we'd be going as well this year if Curtin hadn't come from the clouds to show he's a generational talent!

Same game were he basketball bounced it to himself to gain possession and clearance?

The great thing about a player like Dan is that he doesn’t have to be a one position guy.

There’s no reason he can’t float between the wing, on ball, or forward line depending on where we can best use him.
We have a few players like that now like Curtin, Dawson , Rankine and a couple of others who genuinely good multi position players which allows so much flexibility to change things up during the game if things aren’t working.

We don’t need to use him there, but I reckon even a player like soligo would go alright up forward.
He knows where to find the footy and loves a goal.

A few stats

It has been a steep improvement curve for him. It's why I wish we'd be throwing a few of those revolving door HFF games Sid Draper's way. Genuine talent doesn't take long to shine and you shouldn't wait for injuries or a pile of losses to pull the trigger.

Curtin started to find his feet at the level at the back end of last season. This season has been an extension. One of the bonuses of our putrid start to 2024. I wonder if Curtin would have got picked if we were still a realistic mathematical chance to make the 8?

Its been a while since weve had the leagues "best player" as such, this kid could be him.
He's winning the ball in crunch situations and at important times too. Not coasting across half back getting cheapies

Hopefully they send Sid on a similar journey next year?

Any reason why Curtin can't be our Saint Nick?
i.e. a roaming key forward that can actually kick straight for goal.
I think that this is where he ends up. For now he’s not required forward and he can learn his trade on the wing where he gives us a great outlet.

I suspect that he’ll become like Pavlich, capable of playing just about anywhere.

I think we all expected big things from Dan but not many - not me - expected it to be so quick and so dominant

A big part of our rise

Crows Bigfooty board while watching Jonah Lomu trample all over international wingers like they aren't even there: "Yeah, but what if instead he were in the front row being smashed by guys twice his size."

I think more a centre mid that goes back to assist and drifts forward to kick goals. Look at his size now, he is already menacing. Whats he going to be like in a year or 2 with more preseasons under his belt. I thought it would be hard to look out for a player more than Izak on the field but dan is the first player i look for at the start of each quarter to see ehere he is lining up. We are so lucky to have this lad in our side.

On the one hand, this is the kind of talent we should expect from a top 10 pick if our recruiters are doing their job. On the other hand though, I had resigned to it being a slow burn because taller blokes often take time to develop. Curtin was like "**** all of that, I'm a gun right now".

No change has been made at our end.

Not necessarily, most top 10 picks I am good with them turning out to be very good players. Curtin looks like he could be a top 5 player in the competition within the next few years and that's rare with even top 5 picks.
