The other thing about Curtin that is interesting is comparing him to Dawson at same age

No one was sure what Dawson best role was but at that age he wasn’t developed enough in his game to get regular games and it didn’t come until he was about 23 yo

Curtin is going extremely well for a player of his type at 20 yo this year IMO

It's becoming more urgent to sign this guy up on a decent contract. He showed skill and composure on Sunday and made a solid contribution to the result.
The general trend is pointing significantly up. Going to have some off days and quiet games as a 19 year-old growing into his frame, which is common, but yesterday was a big tick. Have to keep playing him, credit to the coaching staff for backing him in this year.

When his confidence really grows, look out. A serious breakout game isn't too far away I reckon.

What Nicks and the Muppet squad need to do is exposing him to some centre bounce against the likes of West Coast and Richmond for a couple of rotations rather than going forward. Same with Taylor and Edwards when he finally plays him

It's a good PR move (though we are past the days of selling hope), but does nothing else.

That kind of stuff is for preseason.

I think this game was more significant than has been mentioned so far. He was named on the wing and played on the wing, as far as I saw, and I will be bold enough to propose that he looked very comfortable in that position. Has he found his spot?
(Despite Roo still thinking that he could still be a forward, midfielder, or.....even defender. ;) )

I don’t think there’s any need to rush to find him a position. For some reason we seem to be desperate to find one spot and leave him there. His versatility is one of his great assets, let’s use it.

Curtin doesn’t look to be as mobile as Dawson, slightly thicker body type, more of a KP frame.

I’ve been saying all year that I feel Wing is his spot. Seems many others on this site agree

Without a genuine winger in the side currently (Cumming is a HB, IMO) I think he should be given every opportunity to make the spot his own. I think he’s more damaging there than playing the 3rd/4th tall forward

I agree.

Mark Bickley called him more a loper than a runner and I tend to agree. He is quick for his size but you can see when the ball is in dispute others run past him.

He has a big future but he won't be a midfielder or wingman long term.

Not sure about that, reckon he's got some power in his legs left to develop.

He's still a kid

Not at Adelaide, he doesn't. No one who shares a position with Riley Thilthorpe has a big future. Just a future as a support piece for what should be a HOF caliber career.

Mind you, it's a very big call to say he won't be a wingman, especially considering how much the wing position has fallen off in terms of quality/needs (as right now, all Curtin needs is to become an endurance freak and he's there, seeing the contested marking/skills will carry him the rest of the way). For Curtin to have a big future here, it's on the wing/midfield - or we push him back to defense, but even then Worrell may also cap out that future.

Disagree

He will be a a guy that can float to wherever we need him like a Dawson IMO

I would use him midfield ( including wing ) and forward though , a bit wasted in defence for mine

The strength, skills and poise really make a delicious mix.

Second he works out how to find a bit more of it, and back himself in with it he's going to be a monster.

Yep, you can see the talent and the more games he is playing, the more confident he is getting. We are probably still a couple of years away from him really elevating but he has all the tools to be a topline player in the comp imo. I just hope its with us.

Draft his brother, he is in the right range for our first pick, in a position of need and let’s not forget the whole wrestling circus bears for fun thing.

I reckon when Cody tackles you, you’re pretty much getting subbed off.
200cm and 100kg. Yeah he's a massive kid. I see he has also kicked bags of 8 and 5 this year.

I'm not against looking at a KPF, we are well stocked in the AFL side, but with Turray injured we do look a little light on talls in the SANFL.

Can't say I've watched any of him yet, but I'll certainly keep an eye out come the championships.

quite a few score involvements and goal assists in that package

didn't get to watch the whole game on the weekend - my mealbreak at work was basically the whole 3rd quarter and i figured I got to see the best of it so those 4th qtr marks I hadn't seen yet

very promising signs

He just needs to keep playing, and building his game at this level. Right now he's learning how to beat AFL players in different ways consistently. But once he has that sorted he'll be very hard to stop for opposition teams.
