I got him 4 weeks ago at 80/1

I'm considering cashing out. The cash out is x22 my initial stake. He'd probably have to still have a pretty decent 7 weeks to claim it.

It's just when you see how he's playing, he looks unstoppable.

Will he play better than Ashcroft and Langford in last 7 games is how to weigh it up as they are the only realistic candidates a to win over him, plus Vic bias in voting.

I'd take it, honestly. I love Curtin, but x22 is a great return, and his current odds are based on two fantastic games in three weeks. Easy to forget he had only 9 touches last week. He would need to essentially maintain that 20+ disposals and 1+ goals form line for the rest of the season, or even improve on it, to win the rising star.

WCE knew what was up. They had to take Reid with pick 1. Everyone would have as he is going to be a star of the comp. But they tried to trade their f1 knowing it was likely a top 2/3 pick. Very glad we passed as it would have been a Dan Curtin for probably Jagga Smith who is going to have to become one heck of a player to outshine Dan
My recollection is that West Coast wanted our future pick as well, which would have been pick 4, so Jagga (WCE pick 3) for Curtin for Draper, or we would have taken Draper at 3 anyway, so effectively giving Curtin away for nothing. It wasn't a strong offer, so wasn't considered, IIRC.
So I'm not convinced on the narrative that West Coast really wanted him, they should have traded down with Melbourne and picked Curtin up with a bunch of other players, are offered a straight swop with us.

You sure they were asking for our f1 as part of that offer. It wasn't my recollection

Know what you mean. I placed $35 at 80/1, and they are now offering me $530, tempting, but a win means $2835 😳

Or hedge your bets, take $300, put it on Ashcroft (3/1), if he wins you get $900 and if Curtin wins you get $2835 (less $300 is $2535). If Ashcroft wins you get more than the offered payout, but you get to keep your big win opportunity on the table.

This is a far smarter way to do it than cashing out

Curtin now leads all Rising Star eligible players in Coaches Votes I think (albeit he's only polled in 2 games).

Not sure favourite Ashcroft has even polled one.
Unfortunately it's a fait accompli that Ashcroft wins it.

He could literally eat a baby on field and be suspended for the next 6 weeks and still win it.

He’s best games have been better than any of the other contenders, but Ashcroft’s overall body of work would be better, I’d cash out.

This is undoubtedly right.

What's the notional criteria for Rising Stars voters to vote by? Is it performance across season and/or consistency of peformance? If so one would think Curtin would need to play out the rest of the season at the standard of the Richmond/Bulldogs games to be a shout.

Not really sure, looking back on the past winners there has generally been a pretty clear standout a lot of the time.

16th ranked player in the comp in the last 6 rounds. Cherry-picked, but an indication of just how fast he's coming along.
I just look at his game style and how he has developed and think, that is a game style that could really stand up in finals. He has speed off the mark to get clear, has a vice like marking ability, moves through traffic as good as anyone and has brute strength. He also reads the game really well and hits targets and knows where the goals are. I can't wait to see him in the finals this year.
