Daniel gorringe on sidelines

Keen to hear the series of events that lead to Rocket Eade unofficially delisting him the week before Round 2 of his final season at the Gold Coast.

Played a decent first game for Carlton, and had obvious athleticism and potential as second ruck/tall forward, but just kind of went quietly into the night...

Gorringe (along with James Aish at the time) was playing regularly in a SANFL premiership side as a 17-18 year old. Eventually went on to be a top 10 draft pick, which is somewhat uncommon for a ruckman. He had genuine talent and athleticism and potential, and was expected to be a quality player.

Everything I've heard about him off-field seems to indicate he's a bit of a "character" (remember the vitriolic Yelp review, anyone?), which probably contributed to his not quite panning out as expected as a AFL player. Perhaps didn't have the focus or work ethic needed.

The Twitter moments thing was funny as it was fresh as the time but as soon as the extra extra attention got to his head he just came off as forced.

Thankfully that has since dried up and he can go back to being irrelevant

Just saw him taking the piss out of himself ("That one didn't really work out for the Suns... Yeah...", "All the Gorringes in between") on an ad for Fox Footy's coverage of the National Draft.

Seems he might be parlaying his social media silliness into a payday or two. Might have a future as a Ryan Fitzgerald larrakin type. Those failed SA top 10 draft picks, eh?

Fitzy wasn’t a fail, he was a very good player. It’s just that his knees couldn’t support his waifer thin body weight.

Seems like a tough crowd on here ... but for anyone who enjoys Daniel's content and wants to hear his story, we interviewed him as part of our new podcast Off The Play.

He chats about his relationship with 'Rocket' Rodney Eade, the environment at the Gold Coast Suns, leaving scathing cafe reviews, which ex-teammate most likely to be behind a mass shooting and much more!
