Past Daniel Gorringe

The Post-Warnock era is on in earnest.

Suggestion we're grooming Gorringe as a Sam Rowe replacement to play on the 200cm guerilla forwards?

I think that would be a disaster.
In a making contest he'd be rag dolled by a Hawkins.
Very effective against leading forwards tho

No problems with him as a player but what it does say is that Carlton have absolutely no faith in Kruezer's ability to stay on the field cos we now have Kruezer, Phillips, Wood, Gorringe and Korcheck as well.
One of them will have to develop as a key forward otherwise we will lose them through lack of opportunity.
Hopefully Gorringe will be that forward convert.

I don't think that's the case about Kreuzer at all.. I think it's smart by the club whereby we're rebuilding the list and ruckman are a valuable commodity.. We get to see how good these boys are in a rebuild year or two and then if 3 of the 6 work out we keep the best 2 and get a good trade for the 3rd or other valuable ones. These days a more mature ruck is sought for during trade period and I suspect we hope to really invest time in these 6 rucks next season so when trade period comes next year we can maybe use one or two of them to shore up some extra good picks or improve our draft standing.

Hmm - problem with that is that there is no consistency with the ruck/midfield division so it will make it harder for them to play as a team.
Also puts us back to square one if they are continually only short term options, ie trade a bloke that played for eg 8 -10 games and go for a 18 yo that is new to the system.
I understand what you are saying but I still think that either Kruezer, Gorringe or Phillips will eventually have to spend more time in the forward line.

Edit - add to that that both Phillips and Gorringe are looking for more opportunity so they won't want to hang around in the VFL.
Writing is on the wall for Wood though.

Agree with your disagreement... the ruck stocks may be plentiful after Kreuzer, but there's not much AFL-level form exposed from any of them. Kreuzer as #1 ruck is clearly Plan A and Plan B.... if he goes down there's Wood as a safe (if sub-standard) replacement to plug in. Kreuzer relieved by Casboult is absolutely the plan and the only one that looks decent for 2016.

The rest are projects who cost nothing to get (Phillips, Korcheck, Gorringe), and the club will be hoping one of them becomes the late-bloomer ruck star that can actually happen. Remember guys like Cox, Sandilands and Mumford were all rookie-listers (I think) - we're swinging or the fence with these guys to see if we find something great. If not, discard, repeat. Nothing lost.

What is suggests is that FINALLY, FINALLY Carlton have got the composition of their ruck brigade right.
This signing means that (sadly) Wood won't be offered new contract and both Gorringe and Phillips will be trialled as the second ruck who plays forward.

I think it is good, though I admit I don't know if he can play LOL
But point is we are cleaning the deck, which brings in new vitality all round and removes any existing rancid culture.
It is a fresh start which is good.
In terms of specifics, reality is we need new players at every position so he is another young player who was a top pick and has years under his belt who gets his opportunity.
We have brought in a lot of kids who were good picks and have experience so lets all be positive.

From a somewhat different point of view, I'm actually happy we've picked up a lad who has a somewhat 'feisty' personality.

Too many introvert/polite types on our list atm, I am convinced part of Hawthorn's on field success is because they have a core group of players who love ruffling the feathers/getting under the skin of their opponents.

It'd be great if Gorringe plays with a chip on his shoulder, determined to stick it up The Suns and prove them wrong. There's plenty of motivation for DG to be a valuable player for us.

Would it be wrong to call him "Claret"

Gorringe -> Orange -> Blood orange -> Claret

Good nickname or am I trying too hard ??? ........

And off the bench with the sub abolished. Looks like Cam's 2yr contract will be his last but he'll offer up an honest effort if/when called up.
Would prefer to see Gorringe trialled in another position other than a main ruckman, wing, CHF/HFF, FF, CHB, 3rd man up midfielder.
