Past Daniel Gorringe

Welcome to Carlton Daniel... it seems that we might still go for one of the McKay twins, but there will be a lot less pressure on them now to perform sooner.

I think that we might end up using Gorringe in Casboult's old role as a forward/ruckman... either that, or we will use Phillips in that role.

Recruiting Phillips and now Gorringe has taken away the need to use Casboult in the ruck. In the past Casboult was used in a "pinch-hit" role in the ruck which also meant that his forward play didn't get as much scrutiny as it may have otherwise.

He is now going to be under a little more pressure to perform there than he ever has.

Interesting one that.

I feel that Casboult does a great job as a pinch-hitting ruck-man and affords us more flexibility.
Gorringe will need to have a few strings to his bow before he can usurp or indeed function in the same set-up.

By the way..........Welcome DaGo. :) ....or if we drop in that silent 'j' he can be Django .........Unchain the man

Interesting Dram.

A few people have asked where are the extra R1 picks coming from for next years draft.

If the new talls progress quickly and at the end of 2016 season a team desperate for talls comes knocking on SOS's door?

Would he be tempted to part with Kreuz or Levi for first round picks?

If the offer is good enough my bet is "yes"!!

Subject to what player types get drafted this year, Casboult, Tuohy & Gibbs will be dangled out there in a bid to secure additional first round picks.

No-one is safe now, only Kreuzer & Murphy from the "old brigade" will be persevered with over time, Silvagni will be ruthless in his quest to build a top shelf list.

Why recruit him if you are not going to give him every opportunity to play the role he is designed for ??

He hasn't come to the club to wallow in the seconds or have a part-timer fill his shoes, same goes for Phillips.

Well, neither have Sumner, Lamb, Phillips, Tutt, Jones, Dick etc etc come to the CFC with the view of playing seconds........but sometimes they will.

"Silvagni will be ruthless" - Spot on Sheik.

To quote a famous (but very unfortunate line) - "whatever it takes"!!

They were born to play VFL.

Do you think so?

Judd seems to rate Tutt.
Dick was a free hit and does have speed on his side.
......and did you read my last season's pre-season reports on Jones? ................I'm telling you.........Gun!! :)

They'll all have to prove their worth but Plowman, Lamb and Kerridge serve the most immediate needs..........for now, it seems.

Was surprised to see we took Dan Gorringe, but not disappointed.

I still think we want a KPF with pick 8, however if all are taken - I suspect we will draft quality mids instead. Can't see us taking McKay, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We will have the flexibility now to draft best available and not over-rate talls.

I don't think we can look at the upcoming draft in isolation with our draft/DFA period(s). We will end up with 2 gun key defenders which is excellent, 2 Ruck/Fwds and 2 Mid/Fwds and another Fwd. Add (at worse) 2-3 quality mids if not 1 kpf 2 mids to that haul.

Sounds like a very good start to 2016.

Welcome.

Another interesting addition to the club. Has every opportunity to make something of his career, let's hope he takes it.

Was treated terribly by port last year. Courted him all seasonto the point where he told the Suns that he wanted out only for port to say sorry a bigger fish in Ryder has come and we don't want you no more.
Think you have wrong info there...
From Port CEO Keith Thomas ...
“We understand that Dan is disappointed but let’s get one thing straight, we do not lie; that is not the way our club does business,” Thomas said.
“We did make it clear to his manager during the trade period that we were keen to get him here to Port Adelaide and we don’t shy away from that.
“We tried to do everything we could to get the deal done. Right up until the absolute deadline we were fighting tooth and nail to try to make it happen.
“Unfortunately the nature of trade period is unpredictable and erratic and we were simply unable to get the deal done in the end.
“Despite the uncertainty we kept Dan’s management team well informed through the entire process and share Dan’s disappointment that he won’t be at Port Adelaide next season.”

A few Port Members were unhappy that a deal could not be done..

I hope he fits in well with Carlton and becomes a good player.. will watch with interest..

Does 200cm cut it as a ruckman these days? Maybe as a pinch ruck/key forward role. I see us as having added depth to that position being the current Casboult role. Competition for spots is now on and that means they will push each other and elevate the status of that position within our team. Meanwhile if need be it does give us a 4th ruckman with Kreuzer, Wood, Phillips and now Gorringe and it means we dont need to add a project ruckman. Can now take a punt on a small forward or mid with that extra pick in the draft.

Why did we pick another ruckman, one that got delisted by the 16th side, even after Zac smith got traded. Wood gave him a flogging late 2014 when we played the Gold Coast. We have 3 ruckmen plus Casboult, why get another.

Ruckmen don't make key forwards so hope we're not thinking about that. I expect we now put Jaksch in that role, the reason we recruited him. We go best when Kreuzer rucks most of the day with the odd run with Casboult. That allows us to play Casboult, Walker, Everitt up forward, one of the few things that actually worked late last year, and now with Kerridge plus a small forward (Sumner, Buckley?) together with Jaksch. Plenty of marking, plenty of run. An actual 2nd ruck takes much of that mobility away. Besides Kreuzer isn't anywhere near as good when he's not spending most of the day rucking.

GCS had a touch of the Dodoros, following his copybook on the Ryder trade trying to extract more from Port for the Gringe. Roll on 12 months and they get zip for him. Carlton get a freebie thanks to GCS intransigence, not Port.

We do alot better when our no.1 ruckman rucks most of the day, as Kreuzer and Wood prefer to do, with the odd relief from Casboult. We are a much more mobile side and I think a better side. Once we have two ruckman both become alot less effective as none of then are any good up forward when taking a break. I see no reason to change. We have 3 ruckmen plus Casboult on the list. Why another?
