I wouldn't be surprised at all if some big Victorian clubs with plenty space in their salary caps are targeting our young gun players much like GWS did with Lamb, knowing full well they may want to come home. Hanners is one whose name has come up in anything I've heard.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Roos approached &/or enquired about some of our players after learning that we took Buddy. Roos would have been dead against recruiting Buddy on such terms & would be choc a block into these guys because he is in desperation mode trying to avoid tarnishing his record at Melbourne.

This is exactly what the other clubs, mainly Victorian, wanted in having our CoLA removed. We just need to get used to it as supporters after getting Buddy to our team. It will definitely test our players' resolve going forward & we will have casualties no doubt.

If Hanners is one of them then so be it as thus far in 2014, I am struggling to recognise him as that wonderful player that wouldn't have been out of place wearing the Norm Smith Medal on GF day in 2012.

So don't attack Soph please! Something is up!
 
With all due respect Soph, Im not a fan of rumour threads either but I guess in these times everyone loves a good bit of gossip over a 1000 views in a few hours, nuff said. Front page news by the morning.
Where I come from if you do actually hear anything about anyone from your club you zip your lips nothing good comes from it and definitely not plaster it on the interweb I guess times have changed but I understand, you are female and that would make it much harder lol.

Whether it's true or just nonsense, our club has done very well to sign these guys up until the end of 2016/17 which pretty much means we won't lose them for nothing as free agents. I don't look at losing players as a negative because refreshing one's list is essential in going forward & challenging for p'ships.

It would have broken Hawk's supporters' hearts to lose Buddy. But look at the way they are playing. We lost Barry Hall in 2009 & had to watch him star for the Doggies. We won the flag in 2012.

I'm not afraid of these rumours because if not true & Hanners wants to stay, it's a win & we'll all know soon enough.
But all these boys are entitled to the big dollars should they be lucky enough to attract them & this is exactly what the PA was after when negotiating for free agency.
I just believe that our admistration has been a step ahead in signing our key players prior to recruiting Buddy, with the knowledge that some wouldn't be happy with having signed on for less. The admistration would have done this to hold the upper hand should one of these players wish to leave. Much like when Rhino wanted to & the Hawks didn't offer what we wanted.

We'll be right in a few years what ever happens now.
 
Thanks for the initial post Soph, but I think this has become a little personal, and no good can come of it, perhaps book mark it until Nov when any of this can be seen as true or not.
I'm only suggesting to close it, rumours are rumours, nothing can be substantiated regardless of the source,
I hold Soph in very high regard, she did say at her first post, take it for what you will (so to speak) and how this thread has evolved only leaves me to the conclusion for everyone's sake,close it...
Just my thoughts....
 
Attack me all you like (Not worried MODS) I am in no way attacking or throwing Hanners under a bus...i RATE the kid...ive loved him from a game in the ressies before he debuted where he run amok and being the rising star and such

but in recent weeks since the club and himself have under performed and when i was told the information that i heard i thought it was very interesting and big possibility why he may not be here at the years end...sure come back and kick my ass if he doesn't go but i thought it was some interesting information that links back to other threads/posts about hanners we have already heard

Lock it up mods if you want too

Thanks for the heads up re the rumour & clarifying that it was JUST A RUMOUR. I appreciate hearing them & to be honest, I also have enjoyed reading you posts past & present, but I will say that you should not be attacked for mentioning something that you heard. We should not shoot the messenger.

Personally I just believe that Hanners is just going through a trough in regards to his football career & that he really isn't mature enough to have suffered this before or understands that it will turn around with continued hard work & effort.

Remember he started AFL as an 18 year still at school & has been forced to grow up in a major sporting club having also achieved success at the ripe yet tender, young age of 21. Remember, most 21 year olds are still learning about life, love & their future, yet we are expecting Daniel to be a role model.

I believe that we should stop giving too much air to the rumours as at the end of the day as it shows a complete lack of trust in our team ethos & culture. We should mention them, then move on & not comment too much.

I know that the club, the coaches & the players themselves are more professional than just turning up & playing badly. We do not need to put additional heat on the club, coaches or players as we all saw what happened with Mitch Clark at the Demons. Lets just sit back & try to support our team, which has given us a tremendous amount of credits & kudo's over the last 20 years.

I am sure that the Swans will work through this bad time & come out even stronger in the short to medium term.

We understand the point about spreading rumours but at the same time posters should be able to ask legitimate questions of the club and the team from time to time.

Personally I don't think Hanners will go (I hope he stays as he is part of the core of our midfield and has had a phenomenal start to his career), but he has been down on form and he needs to lift.

We'll leave the thread open for now but any posts that aren't on topic will be deleted. Thanks.

Hanners seems to be pretty close to the boys at the club, especially jack and buddy. Having said that buddy was very close to Cyril and gibson so who knows. Personally I like to hear these rumours. No harm in discussing them, isn't what bf is about , discussing football...it only gets out of hand when someone posts a rumour about a players off field antics wit no substance behind it ...discussing whether or not a player wants to leave or not is hardly damaging.
 
I really rate Hanners but there are dozens of top midfielders so if he really does want to go we should get a very high draft pick for him in a draft chock full of KP players and we need a good KPD.

That said, Hanners will probably lift his game back to his previous level and the rumour will be forgotten ......... until end of season :)
