Coming in second place is Dan Hannebery, who similarly enjoyed a successful return after an extended period on the sidelines.

Two goals in the opening quarter had the premiership Swan poised for a big outing, with 23 disposals and three clearances to his name by the final siren.

Hannebery has lined up for just three games this season following a series of hamstring issues, but is determined to finish the season strongly in preparation for a massive 2020.

After five games in the red, white and black, Hannebery has shown his importance to St Kilda’s future through his on-field class and commitment.

With hamstring issues now behind him, the 28-year-old is poised for a full and arduous pre-season, along with the rest of the Saints’ playing group.

Dan Hannebery boasted quite the football resume when he joined the Saints, with premiership honours and three All-Australian selections to his name.
Unfortunately, the star Swan was hampered by consistent hamstring issues for majority of the year, seeing him line up just the five times.
Hannebery’s presence was felt in each of his appearances, with the No. 10 averaging 25 disposals and five clearances per match.
After finishing the season strongly, the 28-year-old will look to put his injury concerns behind him and steam into 2020 at the peak of his powers.

Dan Hannebery looks set to feature in the Marsh Community Series.
DAN HANNEBERY looks set to be unleashed in the upcoming Marsh Community Series after putting together a solid three weeks of training after breaking his right foot in October.
The St Kilda midfielder suffered the freak injury shortly into his off-season break last year when he tripped on a small set of stairs while visiting his sister and her fiancé in Perth.

Surgery repaired the metatarsal fracture and meant he was on modified duties when the Saints resumed training in November.
However, the 28-year-old has turned a corner in his recovery and has been in full training for three weeks, meaning he appears a likely starter for the Saints' first pre-season game on February 20.
Hannebery looked fit and moved well in the minutes he played in Thursday's match simulation at Moorabbin and provided strong vocal leadership to his younger midfield teammates.

He will be looking for a change of luck this year after his first season as a Saint never really got going following a summer littered by soft tissue injuries.
He played just five games last year after crossing from the Swans as a 208-game big-name recruit.

Scans this morning confirmed a hamstring strain that is expected to keep him out for an estimated three weeks.


The hard-running midfielder incurred the injury during the third quarter of last night’s win over Carlton.

Hannebery’s injury was one of the few negatives to emerge from a Thursday night blockbuster that put the Saints ahead on the ledger with three wins from five games.

St Kilda midfielder Dan Hannebery is angling for a return this weekend, with the club's longer break ahead of Monday night's fixture against Adelaide putting the veteran onballer back in the selection frame.

Hannebery missed the Saints' defeat to Fremantle last weekend after battling a hamstring injury, with the club initially anticipating that the hard-running midfielder could miss up to a month due to the setback.

However, the nine-day turnaround between fixtures has given Hannebery an outside chance to meet the Crows at Adelaide Oval next Monday evening, with the Saints suggesting he could replace the suspended Ben Long.


"We'll just work out … is it this week, is it the Port Adelaide game (in round eight), or do we give him one extra week after that?

"That's a decision where we'll probably sit down tomorrow with the medicos and start to go through and plan it … it does change a fair bit.

"Hopefully Dan is pushing (to replace Long), but if he's not we'll make a decision to go a bit easier with him this week and start to build it up for the following week. That will change his program slightly."

St Kilda’s Dan Hannebery is expected to be sidelined for an extended period after re-injuring his hamstring at training on Friday.

Scans have confirmed damage to the hamstring tendon, with Hannebery set to return to Victoria this week to undergo surgery.


Head of Football David Rath said it was a disappointing outcome for Dan.

“We obviously feel for Dan who has put in so much work to get himself right and will now need to complete a lengthy program before returning to the field,” Rath said.

“Dan is a really important part of our group with his experience and leadership, and the way he can influence both at training and on game-day. It’s obviously a blow for him personally and for the team.”


The club hopes Hannebery will be able to rejoin the group in Queensland at a later date as he progresses through his rehab program.
