Harris has asked to be traded next week.
i think we should look at him, maybe for a 3rd rounder or at the most a 2nd rounder. imagine 3 clearance kings in the black and white?
Harris, Cousins, Swan, and a young mid with pick 11 along with pendles swan davis dids daisy all going through the midifield kicking it to cloke, rocca, dawes, jack, rus, medders?
thoughts?

3 way deal on the cards.

We can get Harris as long as we can satisfy North by getting them the player they want in Thomson.

They'll want more than Thomson. I think this trade might be a little difficult to satisfy. He's not worth our first rounder , and probably our second is a bit late. There might be a few inside mids available in this trade period , who can also keep up with the physical demands of the modern game better than Harris.

There will obviously be picks involved also, but the word is they're keen on Adam Thomson, so if we can get involved in a 3 way deal with both Port and North involving players and picks we should be able to get something going.

Cool - I reckon we will have a Go at him trade him for Ben Johnson and R Shaw

... and Egan and Toovey?!?!

Dave, trades are meant to benefit both clubs; Shaw and Johnson would not improve our list.

With Burns retiring, what would Collingwood realistically offer for Harris? I think a 2nd rounder (early - mid) would be fair?

Like I said earlier, the only way I could see us getting a deal done is to help North get the man they want and there would obviously be an exchange of picks involved in the deal.

But I agree, Shaw and Johnson are list cloggers and I hope someone is stupid enough to bite.

Someone on the North board posted Harris + 27 for Pick 10?

I doubt you guys would want to part with your 1st rounder, but food for thought.

We are interested but I don't believe we are that keen on Thomson. He is not key to this deal at all, I'd rather a top 20 pick.

I'd say 2nd round + a player - I'm not willing to part with our first rounder for him, but it would be very nice to pick him up.

He does suit our needs especially with burns on the way out and obree struggling. He is probably norths best clearance winner and tough as nails. People mentioned reservations on his kicking but I think he is a pretty good kick. Its pace and endurance that he struggles with more. If we can pick up him and cousins all of a sudden we have a pretty handy midfield.

Id offer pick 27 and ben johnson, people might say johnson is a list clogger but he is still only about 26 and has to top 3 b and fs. IF fit I still think johnson could have plenty to offer the right club.

he aint worth a first rounder. I rate Laidley as a coach and if has find something in Harris thats wrong thats a worry - clearly Mick can turn anyone around but Harris is very much one paced.

Given the depth of quality in this draft would be loathe to give up second. Would Rusling and a 3rd round do the trick or maybe Reid and they throw a little something back.

Haha, yeah let's trade Reid for Harris .

Only reason I'd be interested in him is he fills a need, he's a worse version of O'Bree (who has been very good for us, but not sure we want two in our team). It's possible that Thomson would be the better pickup, has age on his side, and will not cost as much.

I'd really hate it if we got daniel harris and wasted picks on him. the only way i would want to see him in lack and white is if it was at the expense of an egan/BJ/r.shaw which is unlikely. harris is a clanger king, has no pace and doesn't have a huge engine for a midfielder, he is a good clearance player but that is is. we need something else, especially where out list is at i think we should go for a younger mid in the draft rather than this bloke. harris gets found out on the big stage and the big grounds. the pies play alot at the mcg in front of big crowds!

He's a worse version of O'Bree, but he's just harder at the ball, a much better tackler, much better by hand, a better clearance player and gets just as much of the ball despite playing less minutes.

O'bree has him covered on the ability to snap the ball 30m out of the centre to no-one in particular, though.

26 this year which is a concern for me. I don't see us as being a genuine contender till 2011, which means he'll be 29. Too old for my liking. If Burns had of stayed on and we knew we could definitely get Cousins then depending on the cost I could accept the club grabbing him. I'd rather we paid the lower cost for a younger player like Thomson.

I think Snoop's comment is a good one. Laidley gets the most out of his players so he's not really going to improve much if at all. Definitely not a first round pick and to be honest I'd be hard pressed to part with a second rounder. Maybe a third and a decent player.

Agree that it would be hard to part with a second rounder for Harris.

I'd personally stay away from him, unless we could somehow get him with a 3rd + a fringe player.

Also he is contracted and therefore the asking price would be too high.

Focus on getting ROK, if he chooses to leave.

Inclined to agree. Few players improve much beyond 26 years of age, regardless of what club they're playing for. Ruckmen may be the notable exception. I'm lukewarm at best on Harris, and would be firmly against trading a 1st or 2nd round pick for him.
