We need to stop playing him in the ruck. Full forward thats it.

Yep

With Checkers gone and Buller coming in, Dan needs to now be a full time full forward/centre half forward

Keep Cox for one more year as backup to allow McCarthy to develop

We will need Cox time to time for certain game match-ups. The concern when Cox isn't playing is who carry's the Ruck duties with Darcy. As you said McStay needs to be anchored in the forward line and has shown he isn't upto rucking anyway. Who plays this role or do we just do what Geelong does sometimes and change it up by not nominating a ruck at some stoppages? There could be merit in planning/training this strategy occasionally and have more troops at ground level.

Played the practice match against the Cats during the finals series so assume it was coverage for Checkers. An injured McStay still better than the next available KPF options in Johnson and Howes.

Crazy stuff. Shows our lack of depth.

Dan's shoulder surgery is some of the best "bad" injury news we've had in a while. It makes sense of his finish to the season.

If it had been the case that he was fully fit and we'd selected Cox ahead of him then there's no point in him being at the club, either for us or for him. I suspected that there was an injury issue and shoulder soreness had been mentioned in passing, good to have it confirmed.

Ageed - it does make sense and puts his most recent form in perspective. I did wonder if it might have been his knee that way he was getting around in the Demons game.

Why does Fly keep publicly talking up his "fit to perform" mantra then we constantly see examples where this blatantly is disregarded and injured players are put out game after game and play terribly
Sack him.

A genuine question.. have you ever managed 40 plus people, and have to achieve an objective... ie not a process manager

no doubt everything you’ve ever done is perfect kappa. The blokes made 3 prelims in 4 seasons including a flag with a list that’s clearly not the most talented. Who’d want to be a coach when even with a record like that supporters criticise over bs like you are
Kap’s bait is now is so pitiful he wouldn’t catch a puffer fish.

Not really. How many KPFs can a squad of 44 carry? Cox got the call up. Johnson had only recently returned from a broken leg. West who was next in line based on early season form had only just returned to full training with PF. Howes is very raw. It is what it is.

The original context was in relation to players returning from injury in 2024 when we got our seniors back and then went on a 4 game losing streak - so by fit to perform I'm assuming he's referring to conditioning rather than playing through the pain of an injury.

Yep

Doesn’t sit well with me either

You're just reading it wrong. Bobby didn't play because they didn't think he had the conditioning for second and third efforts and to get to where he was meant to be often enough - that's the not fit to perform part. McStay didn't have any conditioning issues - he had pain to deal with.

Was Howe fit to perform? McRae's postgame comments didn't make it sound as if he was

Checkers clearly wasn’t fit to perform either

Which most of us could see from a month out
