Come on. They took till the 20 minute mark of the last quarter to shake us off and we had been just going in all honesty for most of the last half of the year. Allen has done nothing for quite a long time and I don't see him as any more dangerous than Morrison or Gallup were in this year's final series. We go alright against the Lions.
Agree. In our final against them we were playing with our hands tied, given the loss of Pendles at the start (whose role was to blanket McLuggage), due to Checkers playing injured, due to Howe being unfit, due to Bobby Hill being unavailable.

We would never have won the 2023 GF if we had been handicapped like we were against Brisbane in the Prelim.

Yet, in the early stages of the final qr, we were still in it. Had Elliott been allowed to score that goal he was entitled to, who knows what that does.

Our team is extremely well coached, physically and mentally.

However to compete next year, I believe we urgently need to recruit a big bodied, hard inside mid from somewhere.

I thought Dan bulked up as a result of his knee injury and wasn't as mobile as he had been in the past. I hope he slims down and is a running machine helping fill the void left by Brodie going to the Dee's.

Yeah agree. And apart from ruck… the body on body stuff less a factor nowadays. Plus heaviness only slows a person down and put more pressure on knees etc

Early in the year for a burn… and not a great night for pies forwards, but Mcstay was horrible tonight.

Dropping everything.. up front, dropping it down back. And not a fan of his response to young Buller colliding with him

31 and out of contract 2027. Has 18 months to save his career. Last year had injuries as an excuse for fitness and form - not the case now

Won't get a contract extension past 2027

Shame he missed 2023

Never forget without him doubt we make the granny let alone win it

He was instrumental that finals series

Possibly the most unluckiest modern day footballer?

Joins the Pies. Plays a big role in 2023 and does his knee in a prelim missing out on a flag.

The team he leaves wins it in 2024 and 2025 and are favourites in 2026.

Buckley. So close as player and coach.

Buller earnt that burn, he needed to cover McStay and let him know that he had his back. He needed to call McStay into the mark, not bump him - really poor decision.

Running into McStay was the worst thing he could have done, showed a lack of team first attitude and contributed to a spilled mark within easy kicking distance from goal

It might have helped if McStay was doing some mentoring for Jack's first game at MCG and for Pies.

He provided immediate clear and concise feedback - by not protecting Dan's back he exposed Dan and himself into unnecessary contact as well has contributing to a lost opportunity to score - really poor form. Buller deserved what he got and I'd be sure the coaches would have re-inforced Dan's message.

Buller isn't a kid and I'm sure most senior footy clubs would have a rule about calling the player in-front of you into the mark - I've seen clubs practise this rule.

I think he was protecting his back, people are overlooking the fact that the ball went straight through Dan's hand like butter

Age isn't the same as experience. There's also a way to get your point across and it's not by screaming at someone.

I wouldn't call it a scream, he was definitely chastised. Buller may be in-experienced at AFL level but he's been in elite pathways at two AFL clubs and represented his state at junior level - he's a professional and he's 25 years old - if he can't take that sort of feedback then I'm concerned for him.

He's too reliant on contested marks. Too slow on the lead without the craft of Membrey and very little ground level game. I was seduced because some of his clunks are just such strong clunks, but never going to be reliable when you're not huge without much of a leap and relying on contested marks against AFL defenders.
That's a very good assessment; to date he has been a 1-dimensional forward. I think ManicPie said, a bush footy full forward.

It was easy with Checkers, his bullocking and 2nd efforts was reflected in Metres Gained, illustrating his willingness to chase.
McStay's score involvement in comparison is poles apart, largely reflected his unwillingness to chase in order to produce 2nd efforts.
It's also why it's imperative that someone comes on to assist. Buller has been brought in to replace an ageing Checkers, but I reckon he'll be another Jessie White.
We lost Oliver to Geelong and had to bring in a Delisted Free Agent veteran in Membrey to replace him.
We've no idea if West will deliver. It's all hope.
We've been patiently a decade waiting for a key forward since Travis Cloke. I'd start shopping McStay / assist him to move on and obtain any residual trade currency, which would realistically be a 3rd round pick.

Create certainty. It's Ben King or bust. Just pause for a moment and imagine him leading out, arms outstretched...

In the interim, let's get behind Dan!!

Really confused about this narrative.

Oliver was never in our best 22 or ever needed to be replaced. Membrey came a full 2 years after Oliver had left regardless.

It's been like waiting for ben Kinnear to come good, or even Brent Tuckey
