Perhaps it will limit his versatility but not his mobility?

A player with his talents, similar to Motlop, would likely end up spending a fair chunk of his career in the midfield. Perhaps Menzel, with slightly limited movement, would be better suited to play his entire career deep in the forward line rather than up the ground where he'd be required to drop to his knees, turn, swivel, dodge and jump for every single contest.

These movements are all still required as a forward - but probably a lot less than what they would be as a midfielder/half forward.

Your assessment mirrors my thoughts from a couple of years ago before his knee issues. To me he looked a player had all that was required to be a very good Key forward. Good 1o1 , good setshot , good x factor....

I guess he is what we hope Kersten will become. Tall, quick, agile - can beat a man 1v1 on the ground and in the air, great kicking around his body, great set shot.

Haha - check out Mike Snelling. Classic

Feel for Daniel Menzel, the kid can't catch a break. I hope he comes back stronger than before.

They would be thinking I hope he's not taking any notice of every self proclaimed expert in the land, stays positive, does the rehab and gives himself ever opportunity to reignite his career, from there it in the lap of the Gods.

This deserves more than just a "like".

If there is a footy god or greater being or force, get on board with this and let him come back.

This kid has done more work than I think any injured player that I can recall. Maybe Mitch Brown but either way he just needs a good spell.

My hat goes completely off to him for the work he has, is and will do.

And he looks like a ready to go unit. Fit, skilled and ready to explode out there on the field. No one is rushing or pressuring him.

Of all the things I want to see this season, he would be top 3 on everyones list I reckon.

Get around him!

Go Catters

Just watched the vid Daz, (been on drip feed broadband for the last week or two)

1; Very early in the story , looking at his upper body. He is built , hope he is not too big for those knees. But he is probably the same as the other boys , think Bundy was looking pretty strong as well.

2; Man the music , was it just me or was it like the saddest music with Mez training alone while the others go hard with 1o1 drills

3; Footy has plenty of hard luck stories. To be a dud player (like me) is something you lean to live with early in life , but how tough to get to the show, see all the bells and whistles , show you belong and then ... whack. The proverbial Football Nazi strikes "No football for you".

So wouldn't it be great if the all the guys mentioned get back and play together sometime in 2014.

But it all rings true with Episode IV A New Hope , but now bring on The Menzel Redemption.:thumbsu:

I understand where you are coming from, as some one who played with a knee problem for many years I found the more straight running off the HB line beneficial, how ever with Menz the innocuous ways he's done his ACLs makes me inclined to think the position he plays is a moot point they will either be right or they won't we all hope it's the former.

Tend to agree YPO , the last one was particularly innocuous.
So impressed with the way he has conducted himself , he must have incredible mental strength to get to where he is now and still exude such positivity. Very polished speaker as well.
I so hope he manages to emulate Max Bailey and get back on the park , a premiership medallion would also be well and truly justified :thumbsu:

What does Demetriou have to do with him? ;)

clubs should be compensated when they lose high draft picks under these kind of circumstances. I know that's ludicrous and won't ever happen but we have now lost two first rounders to serious injuries which has impacted us...Mitch Brown = broken leg + 2 x busted shoulders resulting in 2½ years out of the game and today has the same build as a 19 yr old when he should rightfully be 3 years more advanced.

Menzel speaks for itself, was in our best 22 and has not played for over 2 years already.

F*ck the Melbourne football club, they have the nerve to ask for priority picks just for being a rotten excuse of a club

Looking through my twitter feed, seen upwards of 20 tweets like this, many of them from Geelong supporters.

"Rafa has tonight become my biggest inspiration to never give up. #ausopen"

If Nadal playing through a temporary injury in the hope of earning $2.6m an hour later is 'the biggest inspiration to never give up', I'd love to hear their thoughts on 22 year old Daniel Menzel going through four knee reconstructions with some faint hope in the back of his mind that he will one day get a chance to run out on the field again to continue playing the game he loves.

i hate when i get notifications from this thread... do you (or anyone else) know if this is unrelated to the injury?

I'd be surprised if he ever played again. Unfortunate and wasn't meant to be..think Snell.

yeah, got to be the most likely outcome. im positive the club will look after him if so.

Let's be honest, setback or no setback, making it back from four knee recos and having an afl career is a long shot in any case.

We just have to hope for the best and plan for the worst.

Just sickening, I'm now even more concerned for his mental fragility, I think the club needs to take every precaution for his wellbeing.
And I'm sure they will.

should his focus be on 2015 and not this year?
No, just reside yourself to the fact that he's unlikely to ever return.
