All I can say is it would obviously be better if it didn't have to be rescoped in the first place, BUT, IF the reconstruction itself was ok, and just some scar tissue had to be removed, that is reasonably optimistic. If the graft has been injured, that is a worry. I am a worrier, and I won't be worried unless in 4-6 weeks time he's still not training in some running capacity.
For those who thought that reconstructed knees are ever stronger or better than the original knee, despite the original going down with injury, that unfortunately is faulty thinking. There were some posts back a few where some had had ACL recons and seemed to suggest this assertion. Unless there was a tight notch or tunnel for the ACL to travel through, and that had to be widened, the reconstructed knee at best would be about 85% of the preinjured knee strength. That's a generalisation that I deal with on a daily basis.
I have ZERO knowledge of Menzel's particulars, so nothing here is gospel.
You quoted a reply to a specific comment. The first ACL his leg came into contact with Puopolo's when he tried to kick at the ball. That resulted in his knee hyperextending beyond its normal motion. That is non-contact? Hardly. Josh Hunt did his knee in 09 pretty much the same way and hasn't had any real issues since. The 2nd ACL isn't as clear but looked worse. I understand the speculation and anxiety but to be digging the guy an early grave is still absurd to me. It's time to be realistic and cautious but not pessimistic. I expect him to make a come back this year but when and how it goes who knows. I'd hate for him to read the stuff in this forum or he'd slit his writs from all the negativity. Just saying...

Good surgeons generally quote that the reconstructed knee gets to about 85% the total functional capacity, strength. Just a realistic cautious estimate; rehab and hard work will often help make up any residual deficits in quads; hamstring grafts do render the hammies precarious in the first year, but they do regenerate. This was indeed the case. Menzel had an abnormality in both knees and in fact did have to get the tunnel his ACL passes through widened.
As for the comments about the knee. I did make reference to the fact that the way they do ACL reco's now (tripple bundle hamstring) that the tensile strength has been proven to be stronger. That is a clinically proven fact. That does not mean the knee is strong and certainly does not mean better but it does mean reinjury rates are down significantly from where they were 4-5 years ago.
As for the 85% knee strength. I'm not sure what you mean by that. Are you talking the leg muscles, the ligament, the stability of the knee, his agility?
Stability should be the same, agility will be a down and in time he should get back to 100% leg strength.
Looks like they are hoping for round 1, or not far off it.

Geez, Alex Woodward has now done an ACL. Seems like everyone who has done one before is doing itStay strong Menz
Luckily Menzel hasn't got three legs.
That can't be true? Thought he was already back up running post fix up? Regardless....would prefer club to ease him into side April / May anyway.....needs a solid pre season behind him first and then will be nice and fresh come round 5 and 6 when we could use a fresh player after a tough start.I heard Stevie Motlop say on SEN this morning that Menzel is still 8 weeks away from running. That would pretty much rule out a return til around May if that is the case
Well Balme said on his stint with KB this morning that there was infact a minor tear in the repaired graft ( seems to be differen't news to what has previously been reported by the club) which they repaired with a Lars type procedure. Hope to have him back up and playing within the first half of the year but this is certainly not good news imoThat can't be true? Thought he was already back up running post fix up? Mmmm, if Balme is coming out and confirming there is a tear it must be significantly worse than first thought! I don't like the idea that the procedure was LARS like????Well Balme said on his stint with KB this morning that there was infact a minor tear in the repaired graft ( seems to be differen't news to what has previously been reported by the club) which they repaired with a Lars type procedure. Having not seen him in the showers, who's to say he hasn't?

Yeah I would cry if we had another Matthew Egan on our hands. Fingers crossed it's nothing or if it is serious aim to have him back round 20 or so...Seems there are conflicting reports now, sprain of ACL to partial tear? Now I don't know what to believe. I just hope they don't put a time frame on anything, when he comes back isn't important. We just want him to come back full stop. I still have hope for him but now I have doubts regarding 2013.
Yes it's called opportunistic. Think of the free tickets! What were you thinking of Fred? There's a word for people like that!![]()

... sounds like ...? Yeah I am happy for her to take one for the team. Not sayin'.
But it wasn't gimp or limp or wimp.![]()
So he is 2 weeks away then?So the latest "official" word we have is still Pollyanna Balme's "The surgeon repaired the strained area and we do not believe this will significantly delay Daniel's return to the game."
Which doesn't actually say Round 1, nor indeed any date at all.
