Daniel Menzel will be a star

Just loved the way he confidently slotted the banana and the shot from the boundary.
OMG - a forward that actually takes responsibility for kicking goals !!
Looks to have fantastic skills, fitness and a body that responds well to the gym , will defenitely be a keeper.
Can't wait to see Billy S in action as well as the hyphen...........

I was actually more impressed with the marks.
Drop a mark on the boundary at subi and it's anyones game.

Taking them under pressure on the lead can really give the team a kick along.

Re: Menzel- Will be a STAR

Menzel and Duncan will be stars - rather be us than someone like St Kilda.

Throw in T Hunt, Guthrie, Christensen (who I thought played well too last night) and blokes like Gillies, Brown, Motlop - well.... future looks bright too. Just need a good ruckman or two and I will be happy

Vardy!

On Menzel i said a few months ago he reminded me of a mixture of SJ and Boris, well he showed he's SJ like capabilities against the Dockers around goals and will be a star.

He is going to be something really special the boy.

Is going to take Mark of the Year one of these days not affraid to have a leap at the ball

Re: Menzel- Will be a STAR

Where will he end up? Seems he could almost play as a forward, defender or midfielder. I need to get on his weights program, guy is an axe. Nobody outmarks Swan, that is rediculous.

Re: Menzel- Will be a STAR

Thought he was beaten by Shaw for most of the night - but that last contest...kid's a gun.

Loved Bundy's game as well.

Reminds me a lot of the excitement Ryan Gamble bought in his first few games. Whether Menzel turns out better in the long run obviously remains to be seen.

Reminds me more of Steve Johnson. :D

Think the Cats are on a winner with this kid, saw him last week and he's capable of doing some special things.

Good win by the Cats (but we'll get ya next time). :thumbsu:

LOL Menzel is already 500% better than Gamble.

Would let him have his way with my wife and daughter.

not srs don't have wife/daughters.

This....Shaw gave Menzel a touch up. But Scott moved Menzel up back for a run, breaking the Shaw dominance....and then.....the Swan moment...

The kid is going to be something else....

You are kidding, right?

Don't remember Gamble circa 2008? He was playing a similar role in Geelong's forward line, and doing pretty much the same thing Menzel is now. Gamble kicked more goals in his first 10 games than Menzel has too.

Really showing a lack of knowledge here Damon..to be kind. Gamble has never shown what Menzel has...chalk and cheese.....

Better get used to seeing a lot of young Menzel......and long after Gamble is de-listed from St Kilda...

Not meaning to troll guys.

But Menzel is going to be a star, seeing him out smart Swan in a one on one contest was simply amazing, just like how he used his smarts and body work to fight off Firrito in the goal square last week, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

When you have great recruiters as you do at Geelong, your rebuilding for the future is in great hands.

So a young mid-sized forward named Ryan Gamble didn't kick 18 goals and fly for numerous speccies playing a similar role in Geelong's forward line in his first 10 games? Could have fooled me.

I think Geelong supporters are being a bit revisionist here. There was a point where Gamble was a valueable young talent up forward with a heap of potential, just like Menzel. That time might have passed now, but it was definitely there a few years back.

Verrry impressed with this kid. Could have won the car if that mark stuck. I've seen him twice this year (perth tv) against Fremantle and collingwood and he looks great, very strong. IIRC he was a surprise pick in his draft or wasn't expected to go in the first round? Either way looks a gem.:thumbsu:

Menzel:thumbsu:

the comparisons to Stevie J are off imo, this kid can jump and is also a much longer kick of the ball. He's got a similar play to him off a young Jimmy Hird. He's not gonna be a star but he could be a super star in another couple of years. That play where he beat Swan one on one and then ran off him and bombed it in long was almost the game winning moment and the rest of the team looked inspired from that play. He's leading our goal kicking this year I think. Could he possibly be asked to step it up even more so by the coaching staff and become a designated full time forward? Because he has the jumping/marking ability to really cause backman headaches and a shame he didn't bring down that huge attempt in that final 10 minutes of the 4th:rolleyes:

Menzel was in fact beaten by Heath Shaw for a large part of the game. As he did with Varcoe to Didak, Scott moved Menzel to the back line to break the Heath Shaw hold on him....with spectacular result. As you say...the one on one win over Swan lifted the Cats...a defining moment.

Menzel seems to me to fit the Scott mould perfectly...the kid could play anywhere...forward, midfield or back.....

Fair call, the difference was Gamble wasn't interested in doing anything but flying for speccies. Menzel is prepared to do the hard work, which Gamble wasn't.

I will say I thought Shaw took the points for the most part too, but Menzel looks very promising. Just needs to get stronger.
