Might be a good candidate as a coach or mentor in our academy system. Being a converted local player who managed to get the best of himself. Is a big enough name player and will have a very good AFL career behind him by the time he is finished. I'd imagine the kids joining the academy would take a lot from having someone just like them that made it inspiring to learn from.

Interesting that he is effectively on a 4 year deal and will be about to turn 32 at the end of it. Kind of goes against other negotiations for older players.

If he thinks he can not justify the money, he will walk away, not milk the contract for every cent. It is a testament to his character, and the club's assessment of it, that he has been offered this deal.

His last few contract re-signings have all had the same pattern.

He really is class. Pure, pure class.

Never a truer word spoken.

A good little Brisbane Bears man was our Rog!!

Who would people take at their best, Mal Michael or Daniel Merrett? Pretty even in most area's... both kings of the spoils. IMO both unlucky not to have an All Australian on their CV's...

Mal was brilliant but I honestly think I would take Rog. More dynamic and is still getting better.

Merrett vs Leppitch?

Crazy to think that Leppa is almost 6 months younger than Dustin Fletcher. Imagine if Leppa was still running around being a really good player for us?

That is indeed crazy...

Not sure if there is a pic out there of it, but on 'Before the Bounce' Dan showed a very deformed and what looked a somewhat punctured right bicep which looked pretty freaky...don't worry y'all, will be fine for next week.

Merrett up there with Rockliff as best on ground for me. Some of his disposal towards the end of the game was poor, but he was forced to be active all day, and I think it is understandable that he was a bit tired.

Adelaide star Patrick Dangerfield leads Adelaide to victory against Brisbane Lions

BRISBANE defender Daniel Merrett best summarised the mood at the Gabba after Adelaide superstar Patrick Dangerfield condemned the Lions to their second-straight loss of 2013 last night.

"We redeemed ourselves a little bit but it sucks not to get the four points," Merrett said after the Crows inflicted a 19-point loss on the Lions.

Merrett - who kept Crows spearhead Taylor Walker to two goals - said the Lions players made a pact not to repeat the effort from the Bulldogs loss which left the group "bitterly disappointed". "It is heartening to think we were close tonight," he said.

Lions defender Daniel Merrett said the players had vowed to put in a wholehearted effort after their soulless opening at the Etihad Stadium.

“Last week we were bitterly disappointed from the effort we put out,” Merrett said.

“As a playing group we made a pact we won’t let that happen to us again.

“It sucks not to get the four points because we were so close. We still felt late we just needed to get our hands on the footy.

“Obviously they kicked another goal ahead and we were out of it.”
