lol that was during an era where we were setting the benchmark in junior development and junior recruitment (we had to in order to compete), we made like 10 consecutive under 19 grand finals or something like that.

We picked up Carey for $2,500... Longmire for $2,000... Sydney didn't even know who these kids where, Carey was in Adelaide when Sydney did the paperwork.

We also got Nathan Buckley for $10,000 but in the end he decided to go via Brisbane to Collingwood because he wanted to play in a premiership team. lol, just bypassed 5 premierships in that move. :p

We always heavily recruited outside of Victoria, our recruiting zones were crap, we had to get young stars from interstate.

It is why our team of the 90s was as good as it was, given the talent we palmed off to Geelong, Crows and other sides. We just couldn't keep all those kids together.

Wells is just sheer luck. We would have ended up with Tim Welsh if Carlton didn't cook the books and the Bulldogs are looking to give him one last year before they delist him. Adelaide could never have predicted the Carlton thing.

Motlop isn't a reject it should be worth remembering, he's an integral part of the Kangaroo's best 22. Most other players offered around in the trade period are rejects and not valued by the there clubs.

This is the best offer you'll get I reckon (if it eventuates) so either take it and have a punt on a injury prone 24 year old, or recruit a couple of club rejects and DP's or get nothing. Don't follow your cross town rivals lead.

I have it on very good authority that Motlop's preference is to go to the crows. Apparently his management have not heard anything from the crows, but have already heard from the power and they are super keen to get him.

BTW my source isn't from 5AA

Why??????

Its about time we stood up to these ****************s that run off to their mummy when their initial rookie contract expires. I would rather lose him for nothing that not get a proper compensation for him. Make a statement once and trust me you won't get other clubs trying to screw you again at the trade table and it also sends a message to to these ****************s that we WON'T be taken for a ride by some snotty nosed teenager :mad:

I do know for a fact that we are interested in Motlop.

People can laugh at KG on this one all they won't but in this instance I believe him. Why you ask?????

Who was coaching Motlop while he was in North Adelaide?????? That same person is keeping in close contract with both Motlop boys AND is working on 5AA ;)

I actually think this time KG is legit.

What's the point in letting him go for nothing though?

He doesn't appear to have a preference, and even if he did, I'm sure his main objective is just to get back to Victoria.

So what's the point in just letting him go back to the Blues or Hawthorn with no compensation?

He gets what he wants and we get nothihng. We may aswell get something out of it. It's not like Freo or Brisbane have the No. 1 or No. 2 PSD pick and there is a risk of him heading there if we don't find a suitable trade. He is heading to Melb regardless, so we may aswell get some sort of compensation.

Would agree if there was a club behind this BUT this is just the player doing the screwing - IMO would achieve very little

Jars was just on 5AA and said he is in contact with the Motlop family and it looks as though he is heading to Port for Pickett. :confused:

OK get nothing for him then.

You'll look pretty stupid passing up a very talented 24 year old, FOR NOTHING.

Your close to a premiership at the moment any sort of stance wouldn't prove anything, and wouldn't stop homesick rookies like Watts leaving in the future.

No. Port's stance over Stevens did nothing but lose them a quality player for zip.

This is not a business of high principles. We don't 'win' anything by making that 'statement'.

Fergus won't give a crap what we get for him or not, he's a dishonourable young man, and if Carlton can get him for zilch they'll laugh at us like they laughed at Port.

I never agreed with Port getting zip for Stevens - has it stopped Salopek and Gilham from wanting to go home?

Pretty meaningless statement.

Agree with the comment on Fergus as well. P*ss-poor.

Because Polak is not going to be anywhere near the player he is capable of being at Freo. They know it and we know it. They've expressed an interest in Daniel, so the club is, from what I've heard, exploring that path.

Troy Polak (Graham's older brother) was at North a while back, has been in his bro's ear. However, if you and Port get in Motlop's ear, could be a hard task trying to trade him to WA.

I just think (and I bloody rate the kid, don't get me wrong), with the way the PSD picks have fallen, you're going to be hard pressed to get anything really significant for a guy who isn't a proven AFL footballer yet, regardless of what he's done in lower leagues.

Maybe if you throw in picks and/or players to try and move into the top five, but I just think if Motlop gets put on the table for an unproven footballer, you're probably not going to get a lot better than that.
