Because Polak is not going to be anywhere near the player he is capable of being at Freo. They know it and we know it. They've expressed an interest in Daniel, so the club is, from what I've heard, exploring that path.

Troy Polak (Graham's older brother) was at North a while back, has been in his bro's ear. However, if you and Port get in Motlop's ear, could be a hard task trying to trade him to WA.

I just think (and I bloody rate the kid, don't get me wrong), with the way the PSD picks have fallen, you're going to be hard pressed to get anything really significant for a guy who isn't a proven AFL footballer yet, regardless of what he's done in lower leagues.

Maybe if you throw in picks and/or players to try and move into the top five, but I just think if Motlop gets put on the table for an unproven footballer, you're probably not going to get a lot better than that.
That would be my preferance BUT its highly unlikely to eventuate.

Why??????

Its about time we stood up to these ****************s that run off to their mummy when their initial rookie contract expires. I would rather lose him for nothing that not get a proper compensation for him. Make a statement once and trust me you won't get other clubs trying to screw you again at the trade table and it also sends a message to to these ****************s that we WON'T be taken for a ride by some snotty nosed teenager

Nick Stevens Board.

Wrong. Schell was given plenty of chances and performed in TWO of them. He was too slow, timed his leads poorly, spilled marks, was a terible shot for goal. He was his own worst enemy.

What, did he tell you Ayres ruined his career? I'll bet it's just an excuse for someone who had talent but wasted their opportunity.

He told me nothing of the sort...this information comes from an interview with John Reid on 5AA.

He was too slow - try playing with a bursa on your knees - he couldnt bend - the surgeon said and i quote john reid "i dont know how youre attempting to walk let alone play football, its the worst i have seen in 25years of orthopaedic surgery"

He spilled marks - have you watched him in the 2 years since he was at the crows? Since his fitness has improved he is probably considered the best mark in the SANFL. Poor delivery doesnt help a forwards attempt at marking - theyre generally the ones that get the most criticism for spilling marks.

I heard on SEN today that he wants to go to Adelaide (not sure if they meant the club in particular, or an Adelaide based club). Don't know a hell of a lot about him, but hear that he is injury prone. But then again, that was the history with Scott Thompson, and look at the season he had.

Perhaps a trade for Fergus Watts?

I'd do it but I think the roos may want the crows to add a pick.

Motlop is injury prone but had surgery at the start of the year so hopefully there'll be no more shoulder injuries. It popped out almost every match last year. Has had some hamstring troubles but looks to be over that as well.

He has kicked 53 goals from 47 matches (34 goals in 2004). His best match was probably against Carlton in 2003 where he kicked 3 goals (4 behinds) and had 26 touches off a flank (the team won by 120 points though). Is capable of some freakish goals. He is only 23 so he has another 8-10 years left in him. Has showed enormous potential but hasn't lived up to it becuase of injuries.

That's some information about Motlop's career. Career stats: http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/D/Daniel_Motlop.html

I personally am very dissappointed that we are going to lose him.

No. Port's stance over Stevens did nothing but lose them a quality player for zip.

This is not a business of high principles. We don't 'win' anything by making that 'statement'.

Fergus won't give a crap what we get for him or not, he's a dishonourable young man, and if Carlton can get him for zilch they'll laugh at us like they laughed at Port.

What happend the year after? The ultimate goal a Premiership. Stevens did well for himself didn't he?

Imagine if you had Wells as trade bait? Oh sorry, you could have had him but instead you went for some 30 year old hack who couldn't raise his arms above his head. Still hurts doesn't it?

Why would we even consider trading him if we did have him? He's a GUN!

According to KG on 5AA Motlop had a medical at The Adelaide footy club today.

Interesting!! :)
Nothing unusual to check out a player who has a history of injuries (especially shoulders).

I would be surprised if other interested clubs wouldn't take the same action.

Although the fact that he has come to Adelaide for a medical suggests that he is interested in playing for us.

Exactly. The fact that he has come to Adelaide for a medical would mean that we are in the running for his services .... I'd like to snare him, but dont want to pay through the roof for him. Any idea what the going rate for a Daniel Motlop would be ? A first round DP ?

could be here for port as well.

Interesting indeed. Seems you now have the inside running on this one. My initial mail was he was headed to Port but recent developments suggest otherwise . Will keep watching with interest now that we maybe off-loading Choppy after failing to agree contact terms. That's why trade week is a head-spinner and I don't like it that much...

If family is the reason he is moving from the Roos then you'd think that he wouldnt care whether he played for Port or Adelaide, so you're probably on the money. Gives North a good bargaining position you'd think.

He will also be getting a medical by the Brisbane football club aswell. Anyone that is going to tade for someone who has missed out almost the entire year would want to get the green light from the doctors.

I believe the tests should result in green lights, on the physical side at least. :p

It has nothing to do with family, the rumour is that there was a falling out between him and his close friends in Wells and Sansbury. It is why he has also entertained a trade to the Demons.

His manager was surprised Brisbane was as keen as they have been in recent days but he has never given any indication that he will only go to a particular club, thank god for that!

That obviously is a good sign for you guys. However, the source is motormouth Kenny who often ends up with egg in his face on some of these things. To his credit he only said that and nothing more. Interesting though that the same station 5AA reported earlier in the week Port and Kangas had sewn up a deal already which seems untrue at this stage. I do not like trade week. Get it over and done with quick!!!

Choppy left us to go home... while the club is interested in him I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole despite him still being one of my favourite players. I think when you part company in that manner it is better not to revisit the past.

Then again, with Laidley who knows what the hell he has planned.

My gut feeling is he wants Hay more than any other player and with Fremantle dangling pick 10 around he may prefer to go with Brisbane for pick 9 + player(s) which they have looked at which whould give them the salary cap room to get him and would allow us to trump Freo with pick 9.

A lot would depend on which fringe players they were interested in off-loading to make the room. He was on 225k with us, not sure what he is looking for.

Gets even more interesting fi a touch complex now. You would think whichever club ends up with him will have to pay thru the nose essentially because other interested clubs will initiate a bidding war.

Considering the marquee players hyped up as possible trades (Bartel; Power; Yze etc) are now locked away, Motlop's value will spiral significantly and advantage the Kangas heavily.

Imagine this: Demons, Power, Crows and Lions all in the queue for Motlop's signature. the Kangas wil just sit back rubbing their hands knowing fully well they will be rewarded handsomely for losing him.

id say the power are int he running, they have byron picket to offer.

Well all the TV stations in Adelaide confirmed what KG said.

Apparently Motlop will make his decision by early next week. I am guessing which ever side does get Motlop will have to part with a first rounder of some sort and possibly more. If today's reports are true then Kangaroos would love to do a deal with Brisbane but we are not entirely sure if Motlop wants to go to Brisbane.

Which ever way it pans out, I think Kangaroos will get fairly compensated for Motlop.

I don't think it will go crazy, I think most clubs will conceed pretty early that it would cost too much to get him as soon as one really great offer comes in. We are in the same boat with Hay, Freo is suggesting they will make a push for him so our initial round 13 pick which was good enough a week ago is probably not now.

Considering the marquee players hyped up as possible trades (Bartel; Power; Yze etc) are now locked away, Motlop's value will spiral significantly and advantage the Kangas heavily.

I guess that is a positive but the sides looking at those midfielders were Collingwood, Essendon and the like which lack a bit of class in the middle, they probably don't have the same need for someone like Motlop and doubt they would start throwing offers at us just because of a lack of other targets... well, you would think. I guess they don't call this the silly season for nothing.

Imagine this: Demons, Power, Crows and Lions all in the queue for Motlop's signature. the Kangas wil just sit back rubbing their hands knowing fully well they will be rewarded handsomely for losing him.

I honestly do not want us to rip any club off. We have a great working relationship with all clubs because we do not fleece other clubs. We look for win-win deals although with players you never really know how they will pan out. I think Collingwood, Essendon and to a certain extent Port are paying the price now for being a difficult trade partner.

I'm happy to just get market value for Motlop and nothing more. We got him at 18, raw talent. He was lazy, undisciplined, unmotivated. We put 5 years into him and he is a serious talent. He chases hard now, his 1%ers are good now and his work ethic and hunger to play and do well is where it should be for AFL level. It is just a shame another off-field issue has ruined that hard work we put into him.

If we can get something near his value out of a trade I would be happy enough. I'd love for him to star (outside of when we play them naturally) because when 2006+ trade time comes clubs see us as not offloading rubbish at a premium and they will be keen to trade.

Yeah, junior still has to agree to the trade although there was no mention that he would not accept a trade to Brisbane, as it was one of his preferred destinations. They just were out of the running until recently because they had salary cap issues.

My gut feeling is North are keen on pick 9 to secure Hay, although I could be wrong. Adelaide could still get that pick in a three way trade if they wanted.
