We can do better than appoint an U18s coach, even though he was successful, to coach a large group of talented recruits at the most important point in their development. I don't think O'keefe played a senior game with Sydney. How does someone from this background, walk the walk with the players?

He'll be fine. Had a job with Red Bull as a Sales Exec so connecting with people from a wide variety of backgrounds isn't an issue for him.

What can you tell us about his strengths and weaknesses as a coach, Michael?

Yep, we could do better than getting a highly rated development coach to develop our younger players.
We should just hire ex-premiership players as coaches because they can walk the walk with players rather than being remotely competent at their jobs.
🤦‍♂️

We should hire good development coaches who have at least played the game at afl level & preferably experienced finals.

Which has literally no bearing on their ability to perform the role.
For context: Gerard Fitzgerald & Howard Clark are considered coaching legends and are almost universally admired by those who have played under them.
Between the two of them they amassed a whopping tally of 3 senior games but by your reasoning neither would have ever been considered suitable.
Meanwhile confirmed shitshows like Hird and Camporeale would be deemed appropriate hires.

I have heard that the Carlton board meetings always start with....
Welcome Ladies and Gents...What can we do this month to upset Michael Jezz ?......... ;)

What about Mark Thompson he could bring some speed into our ball movement

Michael, there are plenty of coaches etc who never played a game at the highest level in sports across the globe. They trained, watched, observed, analysed. They often saw multiple programs and coaching styles. Multiple club structures. There are also plenty of cases where players who walk the walk sucked in the coaches box.

Congratulations, Mr O’Keefe. Best wishes in your next career progression.

Given that we have Luke Power as a development coach - who was and will be working alongside Daniel O'Keefe - saying that we are lacking in AFL experience in the development leagues is an exceedingly dumb comment to make.

One thinks you make statements like this simply to get a response, Michael Jezz.

Seems to go against the grain in a universal fashion. Oh well, it takes all kinds...

It's always good to have differing takes as it creates discussion - heck, there are times where I feel like a contrarian but it's all in good fun.
To knock the appointment of O'Keefe only to hold up the likes of Bailey & Rivers as if they were either proven finals performers or have proven records as coaches highlights either a lack of understanding or a desire to troll.
