Get back to us when Otten is getting tagged.

This is one of the beautiful things about everyone ignoring the players who have actual form of your side. Otten is a virtual unknown with all of 14 games to his name, and he is carving up the opposition, while the opposition coaches are still putting the tagging player on McLeod instead, who is really struggling at the moment.

The Crows have games against Sydney, Richmond and West Coast coming up, and they have a chance to win all three of those and maybe get to a 10-5 record, and possibly move into 4th spot. I suppose by that time some people might actually start to take some notice. Oh well, nothing lasts forever.

No, we don't use him to set up play / quaterback whatever you want to call it

Lacks skill and decision making eh? Doesn't sound like Rising Star material to me.

Coming home from game tonight someone mentioned Andy Otten would be close to Daniel Rich in the Rising Star. Otten was just about BOG tonight hence the discussion. Statistically not as silly a thought as I first thought when I heard it.

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=5

Disposal Per Game
Rich 16.0 Otten 19.7
Marks Per Game
Rich 2.8 Otten 5.8
Tackles Per Game
R 5.3 O 2.6

The scoring stats all favour Rich as he plays midfield and Otten is a generally a backman. For those that use it as a measure DT points are 73.6 for Rich and 73.7 for Otten. Supercoach 79.1 and 85.9 respectively.

It is true Otten has been in system a year longer, but is still eligible. Watching Rich he is a standout, but could there be a smoky for the Rising Star award.

I prefer Callan Ward, he is a gun and tough as nails. He also averages 16.6 disposals per game, 3.7 tackles and 2.8 marks. Had a career high 33 disposals on Saturday and should get the rising star nomination this round.

Personally I really dont think it matters, both clubs have stand out players, both clubs win. I think I would prefer Otten not to win it, prefer he continue to slide under the radar. I think Rich will be a very worthy winner and the Lions must be stoked to of got him at pick 7

Its about where you play. Rich gets alot more heat playing on the inside then the outside defender Otten.

Possesions aren't everything. If they were Andy Collins whos averaging 21 possesions and a goal game would be winning, but he (criminally) hasn't even got a nomination yet

Otten doesn't have a chance in hell to take it, he won't get the limelight anyway.

My experiences of seeing him may be a little biased, there were a couple games he continuously turned it over in a very embarassing way.

And anyway, he's mopping up after Bock and Rutten, Rich is making the play where it counts.

He has a disposal efficiency of 88%. "Continuously turned it over"? I don't think so.

The Crows fans aren't singing Otten's praises because of his ability to win lots of ball (though his reading of the play is helping that a lot), it's his poise and attacking nature when he does have it. He's often compared to Tyson Edwards on the Crows forums because he knows where to go to get the ball, always has time even when surrounded by opponent, tends to make the right choice, and uses the ball well. He never looks flustered (other than his two games last year where he looked like a deer in headlights :o) and his composed nature belies his lack of experience. He honestly looks like a 100 gamer out there in terms of poise.

:p

Keep crapping on. The more you say the more convinced the rest of us get that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Quite convinced you had never heard of Otten before today.

I thought that too, but when you read the rest of his posts you realise, he probably wasnt.

*sigh*

Otten will be a very good loose defender, cant question his disposal, but Rich's just seems to always put the ball in a dangerous spot for the opposition, no 20-30 chip kicks, it always hits a loose player 40-60 meters out and is already getting tagged.

I can't remember the game, may have been vs St Kilda from memory, or maybe Geelong... he fluffed it a few times in a row. That was my experience in him, yes it may be limited, but he had about a 10-15min patch he'd rather forget.

I don't think a 3rd defender (at best) could win the RS award.

I find it humorous that in a thread which nearly everyone agrees Rich will win the award (most Crow supporters have prefaced their statements with "Rich will win but" or something similar) that so many feel the need to disparage Otten for being some free wheeling cheap stats getter with little to no value.

Fact is, he's caused more turnovers (ie more of his possesions come from opposition players' handballs/kicks) than any other Crow, he's taken the most marks from opposition kicks than any other Crow (6th overall in the AFL) and he always has an opponent, he is in no way a 'loose' defender.

People seem to be equating his absolute brilliance in reading the flow of the game with unaccountable worthless footy. /shrug

Sort-a hope Rich wins as I've got cashola on him, but Otten is a freak. Can't wait until Phil Davis comes in to play his role and we can unleash him in the middle.

Why isn't there a poll?

The bit in bold is absolutely mind boggling, and just shows that you really haven't watched Otten play.

Either way, both will be damn good players. Winning the Rising star award doesn't always mean the player will be a star in 2-3 years.

Footy Classified mentioned the Rich v Otten comparison for the Rising star award.

FC had Otten ahead using disposal efficiency.

Perhaps Garry Lyon used to post as Yze_Magic?

Lyon also parrotted Hodge2Franklin's Rioli could be the next Ablett thread...

FC had Otten on top, because he is averaging more disposals than any other RS nom YTD. It was ranked from 1st to 5th for avg disposals...

Has an average of 19 disposals per game and has the highest efficiency to go with that too

Rich may very well get the award, but Otten has only had 1 game where he has not performed well (this year)

He would be in our top 5 for the B&F right now...

Rich would probably be in the same boat at Brisbane
