I'm absolutely gobsmacked that Andrew Walker's name keeps coming up in these conversations about busts. Do you people actually watch football?

LOL, you do realise Yarran is also a midfielder don't you? If you think he is just small forward and that's all he'll be you are horribly mistaken. Yarran is just as able to replace Stevens as Rich would.
CARLTON 17.16 (118) d RICHMOND 12.16 (88)
3 Stevens (C), 2 Gibbs (C), 1 Deledio (R)
Odds are Richmond would have still picked Vickery ahead of Rich if they had the chance.
Their midfield and best 22 is overflowing with A grade talent like Foley, Tuck, Newman, Thomson, Tambling, King, McMahon and Johnson.
And we're one midfielder short because we picked Yarran.
Nice of you to bring up a game from last year in which he went well. Yes stevens has done very well against us and has been good for carlton over the year. BUT A lot has changed since. His neck appears to be flaring again, he's approaching 29, he has ongoing weight problems and now soft tissue injuries. I would have thought another good midfielder or a key defender would have been a more urgent requirement than a small forward who can have "bursts" in the midfield. Eddie betts is a similar type.
And by the way, our midfield also has deledio and cotchin to come in as A grade talent (and possibly coghlan) but hey, let's cloud the issue for your benefit hey by putting in players like king and mcmahon who are not midfielders. King is not in our best 22 and neither is Thompson considering he's played ZERO games.
I'm not bagging carlton for picking Yarran. He may turn out to be another rioli. I just felt carlton has more pressing needs in defence that should have been addressed.

You are an arse clown.Eddie betts is a similar type.

You are an arse clown.
Similar - both indigenous, goal sneak/FP types.
Disimilar - Betts lacks the polish to play midfield, disposal is average at best. Yarran lacks the motor (which can be worked on) but the polish is there and disposal first rate.
You are arguing that we should have taken another midfielder to cover the ageing and frail Stevens...........yet you don't think Yarran will be able to provide that role in the future.........and then start talking about our "pressing needs" in defense.........as the Tiges draft yet another ruckman......
Idiot.

Another idiot who thinks we needed to draft a backman.
Produce a link that says Stevens' neck is flaring up again or leave for posting innuendo printed the Herald-Sun as fact.
Stevens had finger surgery and hasn't been able to take place in training with the main group yet.
Nothing to worry about.
I said your best 22, not midfield after you mentioned King as a player.
That's the equivalent of calling Russell Judd because he's 188 cms and quick...
All we hear from Tigers is how good their young backs are, yet they drafted Jayden Post with pick 26.
The Cotch must be Terry Wallace.
Hughes thinks Yarran will be a midfielder after watching him play for three years, so I think you're grasping at straws again.
Another idiot who thinks we needed to draft a backman.![]()

Geezus some of you lot are precious.
When you continually post uninformed rubbish indicating you don't watch Carlton that often people WILL get angry and rightly so. Your posts indicate you have a very poor understanding of the make up of Carlton's list.
Please try to look a little deeper next time.
Just remember Shaun Burgoyne was drafted in 2000 and didn't make a full time move into the midfield until 2006.
What uninformed rubbish do you speak of? My OP was simply how carlton fans felt about the decision. FWIW I do go to a few carlton games and do have a basic understanding of carltons list. My point of view is a more urgent need in defence and possibly the midfield rather than up forward. It's just an opinion. It's like backsides; everyone has one.
The crotch:
Don't be so sensitive. You may well be proved right but then again that largely falls to a 50/50 game.
If we are right we beat our chest and if we are wrong we are no longer heard of.
I wanted Hurley but have settled into the thought line of more experienced people: Our match committee and the recruiters.
We are backing our backline with talls:
Waite Jamison Thornton Bower O'hailpin and Austin
Smalls:
Browne Carrazzo Grigg Scotland Armfield and possiblyAnderson
We have made the right choice and well worth the gamble
[/b]But not everyone's is attached to their face.

Here is a great example of some uninformed rubbish.
Last year showed, we have a serious need for more forward line options. It also showed that we have some depth coming through our defensive ranks.
Bower, Jamison, Grigg, Browne, Armfield, Austin and added to that list some experience in Waite, Thornton, Scotland, Carrazzo. We have also noted that O'hAilpin will be that tall defender that will provide the grunt down back, he can match up on those resting ruckmen.
While our forwards we basically only had Hartlett and Edwards as some cover.
So Carlton came into the draft looking to boost their forward line and also increase the level of skills running around the midfield. Yarran, Robinson and O'Keefe are all known for the high levels of kicking skills. While Tiller is a project forward and was the only good option left at that selection.
So while you think you have some understanding of the Carlton team, but your words seem to not show this knowledge.
And yet with all those so called defenders you still bled goals. Ok then. You're relying on O'Hailpin? He's like jarrad oakleigh nicholls in that he's lucky to still be on the list. In fact wasn't he shopped around IIRC? And we all know thornton's not the answer down back. Any, hope it all works out for you.

[/b]No you don't you pathetic whiner. Nobody cares what you think about our great club anyway. **** off back to cPunt Road where you belong you cringeworthy wannabe. And get a compass. There's a place in Vic Pde.![]()
