Have been looking over a few forums of late with the topic of our wondeful football club, and it seems that many supporters have already given Danny Stanley his marching orders. A kid drafted at 17, has only just turned 19 yesterday, and yet to be given a fair crack at it has already been labelled a blunder. What ever happened to that word called development. Seriously give the boy a chance and let him find his feet. It takes more than a year of football when your 18 to work out whether the kid can play.

No one has giving him his marching orders but we have been hard on him. I think we expect him to come on quicker than other kids because he's supposed to be "a bull of a player". If you're so concerned, don't read the comments. If it's any consolation, Mick rates him and that's enough to suggest he will be around for a few years, opportunities here and there he may turn out to be a fine player, and he won't be heckled on game day.

Just what i have scene from young Daniel Stanley so far is that he still has a great deal to offer. To write him off is ludicrous to say the least. I think he may eventually develop to be a an onballer...bullish and hard at it hopefully in the Cameron Ling mould. People comparing him to mcgough are way off the mark...they are different in just about every aspect of the game.
Give him a chance we have made a huge investment in the kid and so he may need a bit more time.

I have been kicked in the pants by our #1 mod for being pessimistic about him!

I remain pessimistic, but at the same time won't write him off. His attributes are a solid body for his age and a willingness to use it. If he realises that he 'enforce' at a senior level, and really injects some physicallity into his game (Archer style) then he may be in with a chance. His footy smarts and general ball-handling ability lets him down though.

All this bull******** about giving him time becuase he was bottom aged annoys me somewhat. Yakka was granted a top age recruit, but he showed far more than Stanley ever has, in both potential and actual output. The fact is, if he has as ordinary a year as last year, he will be delisted. Harsh, but true.

Five or six players will have to go at the end of the year. Only two of those will be retirements. We have no more Walkers Halls Fannings or Clokes to delist - no "easy choices" they are all likely to be tough decisions.

Unfortunately for a player like Danny Stanley, he'll have this year and this year only to prove himself. He'll be battling with other youngsters like Iles, Toovey, Davies and Cook to avoid the chop. If they all perform, fantastic, we have a huge future, and the delisting blowtorch turns to O'Bree Licuria Richards Lockyer and Davis.

Thats the reality of things. Nobody's writing him off, but he's the backmarker and giving away a big headstart to everybody else.

So you have expectations on him because you read some comments by these so called "experts" in the paper saying he is a bull of of player??? LOL

I would say if people have the time, go down watch willy on a regualare basis and the make your own minds up on how good these young kids will be.

Do you consider MM an 'expert'?? I think it might have been him that said it.

I've seen him play - I must say he's been a letdown - he's struggling to adapt to the pace of the game and he doesn't resemble a professional footballer...or athlete as it's called nowadays. Shall he remain on the senior list next year, he needs to start pulling his weight and become a dominant player off the half-back flank at Williamstown.

He struggled with a few injuries last year

A recruiter I know didn't have him in his top 50.
Wouldn't surprise me.

Weaver didn't rate him in his top 50 and early on picked out his main deficiency, which is kicking. Colin Wisbey squeezed him in at 48 out of his 50, which is the most polite way of saying he's not a write off, but I wouldn't draft him (his reasons were kicking and lack of footy smarts).

Conversely, Danny was rated by more than just us. I'd bet he'd have gone top 30.

It's a funny game recruiting. People see different things.

Personally, and even allowing for injuries, what I've seen of him would lead me not to have drafted him as anything other than a rookie. He can kick, but I was at the Casey game in Cranbourne last year because I was bored, and he was on the same field as McGough. His kicking made McGough look silky!

I would literally draw a line through any player who cannot kick consistently at U18 level. At least ones who don't make up for it in other special ways, ala Daisy Thomas.

Stanley's special factors involve bullocking and physicallity. As I've said, if he doesn't show this soon at senior level soon, then he will not have enough positives to outweigh the negatives. In fact, he will have no positives at all!

Stanley is probably the worst of our youngsters but he's no Shackleton, Nixon or King. He is not the typical inside wombat type Judkins likes, he is like people have said a bullocker and pretty good pace. However he has very erratic kicking where he either hits the target lace out or absoloutly shonks it. He also has the Coles about and has little awareness when somoene is chasing him from behind. He has a solid burst of pace but doesn't know how and when to use it.

it was stanley's first year last year. walker had about 6 to show us something

Exactly, we made the mistake of hanging on to him for four years too many. The club is in no mood to repeat those mistakes any more, as the surprise delisting of Iaccabucci last year illustrates. Its a tougher club these days.

Make no mistake, if Stanley does not show dramatic improvement, he's out.

so you have spoken, i hope you tell him that he is in the gun,Iacca could have been delisted for any number of reasons, which i don't know
