More info on Daniel Webb
Daniel was delisted at the end of the season after spending the previous three seasons on Port Adelaide's rookie list. Whilst turning into a solid and dependable 2nd ruckman and key forward at SANFL level, Daniel was unable to push for AFL selection whilst on the rookie list. He leaves having played 41 SANFL games and 10 SANFL Reserves games for West Adelaide whilst on our rookie list.

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

Looking forward to a big year from Daniel. Has a precedent set for him by our previous two SANFL tall forward selections, Salter and Stewart. Should continue to improve throughout 2010 for West Adelaide and regularly be in the best players by the end of the year.

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

I think that with some great new players comming to Westies this season young Webby should be on the end of some better delivery into the forward lines.
With the leap and the hands that he has, he will be hard to stop if he gets out in front. Could be a great pick up by the Power with a bit of luck.

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

This guy was a really good pick up IMO, can take a mark, has a huge vertical jump and is a good height (196cm).

Has played well in the SANFL, hope he takes the next step and starts pushing for selection by the end of the year.

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

Hope young Webby gets a chance in the Nab cup. Could be worth a shot.

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

Went and saw a bit of training on Friday morning. Saw Webb take a nice mark in front of Trengove and get a punch in the face and blood nose for it . Trengove hates everyone.:eek::eek:

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

Forced his way into Westie's seniors and kicked 4 goals in a losing side today. You beauty!

Awesome, should have upgraded him insted of Cloke

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

Also good to see Webby get 7 tackles in a game.
Thats 14 goals in three weeks. (10 in the reserves).Improving player.:)

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

Yep really travelling nicely. Played back for a bit against Centrals as well apparently and did well there as well.

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

We need at least one of him, D. Stewart and Salter to make it as AFL quality forwards. They all provide something different. Perhaps he's the one with the best combination of height/size and natural goal-kicking talent.

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

Watching Webby on Sunday in the ruck, it will be interesting to see what happens to him if he can get a bit more weight on him. He jumps very well and with some more muscle might be able to offer a bit as a part time ruck in an emergency. While he got only 14 hitouts it will be interesting to see how he goes against Cockshell and McKernan on Saturday. Unlike some of the really big rucks he looks comfortable around the ground and provides good ball movement with hand or foot.

Re: Daniel Webb (Rookie)

Funny watching Webb jump in the ruck on Saturday on the ABC. Came off the bench, jumped at O'Hara and ended up jumping all over him, with his knee on his shoulder. The ump gave O'Hara the free. I thought you could jump at the other ruckman. What are the umpires doing.

Haha that was one of the best ruck contests i've ever seen! Fancy pinging someone for jumping too high in a ruck contest.

Notes:
2011 was Daniels second season on Port Adelaides rookie list and he showed solid development throughout the year. After switching between the reserves and league side at West Adelaide last year, he cemented himself in the league side in 2011, playing 18 matches and just the one in the reserves.

He made the best players on three occasions and played further up the field than he has done in the past. His best games though were played at the goal face. His two best games saw him kick 5 goals and take 5 marks in Round 6, whilst having 4 goals from 7 marks in Round 21. He took 27 contested marks for the year and his athletic leap means he can be a viable option in the ruck.

It looks likely that Daniel will gain a third year on the rookie list in 2012, but he will have to improve his output to be considered for a main list spot beyond next year.

Webby has started the year pretty well so far;

Week Two Trials:

Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Eagles)
"Webby played for the seniors in the ruck and up forward, one thing he is really working on is his competitiveness and he really showed some instances on the weekend where it's starting to shine through. So without dominating the game he certainly is improving that area of competing aggressively more often."

Week Three Trials:

Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Double Blues)
Played in the ruck and up forward. He’s changing his game and becoming really aggressive now - the real focus for him is up forward where he had one really special mark in the first quarter which got him going for the game - so it just adds to the good stuff we’ve been seeing from him at the Bloods.

SANFL Round 1:

Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Panthers)
Webby played up deep up forward for the first half - deeper in attack than usual - and West were getting convincingly beaten. He changed to centre half forward and rotated in the ruck in the second half and really had a big influence on the game. He was real competitive in the areas we’ve asked him to work on and we couldn’t ask for anything more in that regard!

Great to read that he is starting to influence games. If he can keep influencing games he will put even more pressure on D-Stew, Westhoff, Renouf, Lobbe, Butcher etc. Will be interesting to see how his game devlops from here.
