Hey Freo, who would you guys pick out of these three for the Fremantle coaching position in '08? Although I do think Harvs probably will get the gig.

Ask again in 8 weeks mate. Right now if i had to make a decision excluding Sheedy and Blight on who i wanted i'd say Harvey.
But its hard to judge on one game, we all know how it works after a coach resigning and troubling week. See if he can keep em up for the next 6 weeks.

I would hate it if we went with Voss, the guy comes across as a complete tosser. In order of preference i would have:
1) Sheedy
2) Daniher
3) Harvey
4) Pagan
5) Laidley

Only 1 game into his caretaker role and I am warming to Harvey more and more... Even though i was calling for a experienced coach to replace our former PR and Marketing Manager CC ...Now i am thinking after watching the performance against the Crows and how the players performed and withstood numerous comebacks from the Crows and the way the team had the passion and commitment and the happiness they displayed to Harvey in winning the game ... It was positive stuff ...

Harvey has the job at this stage.

NONE.

I'm on the dual coach bandwagon. Sounds stupid, but in theory a Sheedy/Harvey dual coach role would be perfect fit for FREO

My order of preference is:

Sheedy
Laidley
Harvey
Pagan

But Harvey is creeping higher up the list the more I think about it.
One thing I believe with coaches is you have to have played in one to know what it takes to win one. All the guys above fit with that!

Voss??? what a load of shit, the guy is not going to get a coaching gig anywhere atm. If he does that clubs management need to be sacked.

I've definitely warmed to Harvey for all the reasons Topdock spoke of. Time will tell, but if he can get the team playing like that for the rest of the season I will be most unhappy if he doesn't get the job.

Of the above I'd choose Voss. A risk yes, but I've already spoken of the reasons why I think he'll be a good coach.

I've gone off Pagan lately. Carlton just get thrashed too often for me to have any confidence left in him. True they have an average list but he's been there for 5 years and they haven't shown any improvement. Compare that to where CC took us 5 years after winning 2 games for the whole season.

Daniher just seems like more of the same. Nice guy - inconsistent team.

Totally different scenario. Connolly took over a young list laden with early draft picks, Pagan took over an old list and lost his draft picks through no fault of his own.

I realise that, but since Pagan took over they've had enough top 5 draft picks to rival anything CC had to work with. They've now got a list laden with early draft picks and Pagan's done nothing with them.

Obviously he's more of a finishing coach rather than a development coach like CC, but football's about keeping one eye on the future and I'm uncomfortable with the idea of someone taking over the club who has failed in his last test of building a team.

At this stage I'm coming around to sticking with Harvey. I mean that could very well change in the next few rounds but untill he takes an entire pre-season and then a season it's not really fair to judge the direction he's going to take the club. Mind you calls of him being a saviour after one game is a little extreme even if it be intended for satirical purposes.

I'd love it if Voss came on board as an assisstant coach doing something with the midfield. Voss coaching Haselby especially...mouthwatering thought. And it would give him a good chance to learn with a new head coach, may just be those 'credentials' he needs.

As made aware to me by docker_azza, if you watch Carlton the style of play is far too one-dimensional. No need for a plan B if you can't get plan A right to begin with I guess. I'm not a fan of the Pagan thought.

Daniher, well, I'm fairly indifferent but I don't think he'd be the one to bring a premiership culture to the club. Even as an assisstant I just don't think he'll help us long term. Then again I'm always up for being proven wrong when it comes to my cynicism to Freo.

So I guess my order of preference goes Harvey, Voss, Daniher then Pagan.

All of their early picks except for walker are still teenagers, so Carlton are basically at a similar stage to Fremantle in 2001 when we had Longmuir, Pavlich, Hasleby and Brown showing glimpses of their future potential. The blues will be exciting to watch in 2-3 years time.
