harvey head coach. voss, german and prescott assistants

maybe scott watters too

Voss won't move to Perth to be an assistant, he'll either coach the blues, spend 12 months as an assistant on the east coast or stay in the media.

Watters would be a good addition, as would Prescott. If Prescott wants to coach at AFL level he needs to make the move to an assistants role. If Harvey gets the gig he'll probably bring in a couple of Victorian's at the expense of Broadbridge and Malaxos.

Would you not seriously look at Pagan provided he actually puts his hand up?

With the made list you have he'd be perfect.

No more having to scrimp and make do with a squad full of duds and high picks that take years to develop as with Carlton, but back to coaching a talented list with a genuine shot at a flag as he had during all those years with North.

I suggest none of the above.

Daniher is a step back in time, bad old days?

Voss is an experiment, remember Neesham and Drum? Hardly snapped up by other clubs.

Pagan is overrated. I don't think the North team of the 90's reached it's full potential, remember the talent he had then?. Carlton are going backwards, the common thread is?

Give Harvey a chance, let him show his worth.

2 flags (1996, 1999)
1 minor Premiership (1998)
1 losing Grand Final (1998)
4 losing Preliminary Finals (1994, 1995, 1997, 2000)
8 consecutive finals appearances (1993-2000)

Considering how poor the Roos were/are financially and the equalised system we're all under I'd say that's one hell of an effort - and without any draft or salary cap concessions either.

If you want watters you may be needing to go down the sumich path. I've always been a fan of Scotty's, but since he's been in the media in a coaching role (Subi) I've changed my mind. He seems to be great when things are going well, but the few times that Subi have lost this year his reaction has been far from impressive - he basically refuses to discuss anything and blames everyone and everything but himself or his team.

Mark Harvey has gone up dramatically in my estimation in the past week and I look forward to seeing him over the next 6 or so games. At this point he would appear to be a pretty good choice for Freo.

Same here. He hasn't put a foot wrong so far , showing great loyalty and respect to everyone.

He seems to have the players , mind you Judgey made the point on Saturday that assistants are generally well liked by the playing group as they are not the usually the bearer of bad news.

Having been here a couple of years He would have a fair idea of the groups strengths and weakness's.

I reckon He has the next six weeks to make it his own for good if He is good enough.

The whispers emanating from the club were that Harvey was brought in to be the bad cop, because when Connolly finally got tough in 2005 he put some noses out of joint. Quite often it was Harvey who gave the spray then Connolly came along to give the pats on the back, instead of the other way around.

Well, with a few more wins I think Harvey would be the no. 1 candidate.

BUT DOES HE WANT THE JOB?

If Sheedy gets sacked, won't he prefer to coach Essendon?

Sheedy will leave a massive hole at Essendon - it will be a tough job for anyone to take on.

I can actually see them looking more at someone like Daniher - he's an Essendon man as well as having the experience of leading his own team and he's a pretty big personality.

If the Freo players continue to respond to Harvs in the same way as they did on the weekend, I'm pretty sure he'll be keen to stick around. Freo are a lot closer to a premiership than Essendon are in the next 3-4 years.

Seven consecutive prelim's is a fantastic achievement. Some people wanted to retain Connolly after one prelim in six years.
I'm not disputing that, I'm saying by comparison of the list he had to work with.
A list with Carey, Longmire, Roberts, Blakey, Rock, Stephens, (Young) Archer, (Young) Bell, McKernan (Brownlow form) will win games and finals regardless of who may have been coaching. Could it have done better? Maybe.

A measure of a coach is someone who can extract the best from a list which (on paper) is thin. Ask Dean Laidley (playing then) if his team has the paper talent of the 90's Roos. His results are just as good, admittedly for one year in a row.

Carlton needed building up, not the finishing polish.

For me that fact that CC has gone is one major step in the right direction. Also need to clean out some of the "dead wood and troglodytes" at board level as well.

Harvey will be good as he has player respect, played and coached at the top level plus I do not think will put up with any nonsense from outside influences. And that IMO is three of the most basic fundamentals to have in a coach.

Tipped us to beat both Geelong and Toasters.
