lol at the peeps worried about him playing VFL. It was only a few years ago, players his age were allowed to be on AFL lists. Wrapping someone up in cotton wool is not the way to get someone ready, it is more likely to keep him further from being ready.
Fletcher played in a premiership at a younger age and much ganglier.

Agree. Timmy was 15 when he played, didn't hurt him.

The one differnece would be that mature players now are much bigger and stronger than back then. Still, I'm sure he can handle himslef on the field. It's not like he is tiny or anything. even with a thin frame he still has some mass to throw around.

Watching him in the first half, he's too big and good for the u18 level. Test him out against someone who can compete with him physically.

I agree, might as well get him ready to play against men. He has just as much chance of injury playing 18's or VFL.

Yep, after seeing that, there's no point playing him against kids. He needs to take those sort of marks against blokes who can actually put body on him in the marking contest.

A cheap shot elbow from Wojcinski that saw him suspended for roughly three weeks.

That wasn't in general play and could've happened in under 18's.

Give him a run, he's going to be playing with them in under a year anyway.
Wasn't in general play? Viney was running with the footy, wojo running at him to tackle, viney sidesteps and ducks, wojo hits head instead of chest. I'm not sure that play can get any more general. Have you seen the footage or are you mixing the broken jaw up with the little love tap that he got when they were wrestling?

I thought it was this, but you may be right.

Mate if that punch broke his jaw, Melbourne might as well not draft viney. His bone would disintegrate by the time he was 23. It was an attempted hip and shoulder that would have been called play on 5-10 years ago before the rules were tightened.
It didn't, got his jaw done on a bump later on.

Joe needs to play against men. He needs to learn how to compete against stronger bodies that wont allow him to run and jump at the ball. Clearly too good for u18s despite hardly playing any footy this year. Two or three games in the VFL and continuing to work on his weights program is all he needs. If Essendon continues to improve in the midfield next year then a 200cm third tall will relish the chance to play in forward line where Crameri and Hurley will take the best two defenders.

Hurley has picked up his pressure acts in the last month, Crameri is as quick as most forwards, Daniher showed some great pressure acts on that highlight reel and our small forwards are all quick. Having the three of them up forward wont be a problem regards opposition running the ball out. Hell even if there was Ryder playing alongside of them it would be fine as his chase down of Wojak and Yarran last year showed. The only potential problem could be a lack of chemistry causing them to get in each others way. Also no one positioning themselves with crumbing in mind.

That said if three or four of them played there together opposition teams would be playing three or four tall defenders and that should stop a lot of their run from the back half on its own!!
