I make it three years hes had on the list now, four by the end of 2010.

Not many players have gone that long without notching a senior game at some point, even on the rookie list; not many rookies even get a look-in at a 2nd contract (after the initial two years) if they haven't already been upgraded/played a game.

Doubts would have to be cast on that decision to re-draft him if he doesn't improve next year.

Well he was originally on our senior list for 2 years but had a few bad hip injuries iirc, and was delisted and was told by the club that they'll continue to monitor his progess back from injury and they'll consider drafting him again. so then they rookied him in last years rookie draft and next season will be his 2nd year on the rookie list.

When was he senior listed? Never....

Must be something notable about it if they are keeping him.

Not quite.

He was a rookie both times, pick 25 in 2005, pick 33 in 2008. You are bang on the money about his injuries though, he went back to a local team and did pretty well so we picked him up again.

He is probably lucky to still be a rookie, but I have seen him twice live and he really has some spark, an X-factor if you like, and with a bit of luck could have a future, especially given our lack of forwards.

I didn't think much of him to be honest, maybe it was because Casey forward line was mighty congested with tall blokes... Robertson,Miller,Watts,Newton, Dunn & Hughes...

Sorry you guys were right about him being on the rookie list. For some strange reason I thought he was originally on our senior list a few years ago.

That's quite a potent forward line for a VFL team!!

But each to their own - what I saw of him looked very promising. Powerful, fast, good hands..... I would love to see him get a chance.

Maybe you got him confused with the other Danny Hughes.

Ive played footy with Danny Hughes in the past and can understand why he got a rookie spot (although I was a tad surprised). Has good skills, is athletic, plays well above his height, versatile, has time with the ball and can find it without needing to run all over the ground.

Weaknesses are consistency and having an impact in big games or against better oponents.

Must say I was really surprised when he got his second shot - especially given I thought there was still some reasonable talent around at that point in last years draft.

Anyway his time is well and truely up now - he's 25 or something and I dont see him ever breaking into the best 22 at AFL level.
