1st round pick 26 + Cam Wood (or another fringe player) is the absolute most Collingwood can offer for Pearce.
If Port Adelaide want a higher pick or a better player then it is not worthwhile from Collingwood point of view. I certainly wouldn't be offering Wellingham, Sidebottom or Beams as a straight swap.

Close thread. Rumor squashed.

Pretty sure Pearce is married already but not 100% on that, so I'm just assuming. I definitely know he has a kid, so I'm not sure where the "son in-law" rumour is coming from.

Anyway, Pearce is contracted. He cannot "nominate" Collingwood, if he does, you will have to pay over the odds for him for us to accept the trade. If not, then he will be staying at Alberton next year.

LOL, ya that's not how it works mate.

Pearce can def play and prob would slot in nicely as a Leon type defender.

Would be happy with a Macaffer + Draft pick kinda trade.

It's a joke - I'd say they just know each other through their fathers' involvement in the charity bike ride for Epilepsy.

She's apparently got three kids as well, and I don't think Pearce would be trading in this:

Also, here's a picture of Pearce and his wife holding their kids at Port Adelaide's 'Father's Day' about three weeks ago:

Pearce doesn't fill a hole in or list. Maybe 2 years ago but not now. On that basis there is not point in a trade. Port would want too much. why trade a quality young player out for little if any net gain?

Pretty sure he could fill a hole immediately if Davis retires/moves home to WA, and especially with Johhnson/Didak nearing the ends of their careers.

But yeah Port might want too much....after all he is a Rising Star winner and that makes him a better player than Heath Shaw;)

On the other hand Port dont have the high moral ground they thought they had last time around in the Stevens trade and have no reason this time around not to deal with Collingwood.

Worth kicking the tyres.

Please tell PB how it works then? He is contracted, if he wants to go, you have to satisfy us. ie, you will need to pay what WE want. Nothing more, nothing less.

If not, he will stay at Alberton next year, as I said before.

It's common sense mate, eg the Jolly deal.

If a player wants out of Port and has a specific destination in mind the clubs will work out a fair deal for all. Collingwood won't be forced to 'Pay overs' otherwise all you get is a disgruntled player for another year who will enter the draft the following year.

How has your 'pay what WE want. Nothing more, nothing less.' theory worked out in the past?

Worked out pretty well with Sydney and Ryan O'Keefe, Carlron and Andrew Walker. Port have also shown with Stevens they weren't going to trade with us unless they got what they wanted. Port hold the player, even if he doesn't want to play with them, it'd be our job to work out the trade.

So you consider this a success for the club and fans? I guess the Ball situation was also successful for Saint Kilda.

It's not about being successful for the club, it's about sending a message that they're not going to get bent over by another club to raid it's players. The big difference between Ball and Pearce as well was that Ball was out of contract and walked into the ND after a deal wasn't made. Pearce needs the clubs to agree or he goes nowhere. There is no chance Port would let Pearce go to Collingwood with a deal they weren't happy with.

Pearce is not young, 27 next year i think. He could deffinitly improve our team. Based on his age port would deffintily be willing to trade if we gave them something reasonable, there all about youth.

Edit* maybe trade a bunch of players like goldsack mcarthy macaffer to GWS for a fairly good pick, then trade that pick plus our first rounder to port could do it.

Exactly. Thank you for both posts.

This is what I'm saying, Pearce is contracted and won't go unless we get what we want. If he was out of contract, I still think we would demand a high price, and he could go into the PSD or ND if we aren't happy because we don't take shit, we make the calls. Like with Stevens
