So is current FOG his ceiling?
Do we think he has another level or is this it?

This would be pretty close to it, considering his age and number of games played. His numbers might get a little higher when Tex isn't playing just because those balls that would have gone to Tex would get split between Fog / Thilthorpe and maybe Curtin.

That said, I reckon he could probably keep shape a bit better. There's a work-on for you, Fog.

It's reminiscent of 2017. Thilthorpe is an upgrade on Jenkins, Curtin probably doesn't have Lynch's tank, but can still play that sort of role between mid and forward, Fog is probably playing 2017 Tex kind of role and Tex is now a supporting player rather than focal point... seems disrespectful to compare him to McGovern, but you get the general gist, anyway :p Thow in Rankine / Rachele / ANB (allowing for Rankine probably spending more time in midfield than forward) for Betts / Cameron, and there is some proper firepower.

One of the commentators on Saturday pointed out how, although we have a lot of tall forward options, they don't get in each other's way - you rarely see more than one of them flying at the same mark.
Not Fogarty related this but its part of the overall reason why our forward set up is looking so lethal now. I know this is a big call, but watching Rankine do Rankine things, he IS the most highly skilled player in the comp and he is starting to get to a point where he is getting the ball through the midfield to a level where he can be completely devastating. That one where he sharked the centre bounce, burst away straight towards goal and hit a full pace leading Thilthorpe coming straight at him was the stuff of dreams - completely unstoppable. That goal on the boundary line was just unbelievable - like Eddie Betts at his best, then he rests forward and takes a great mark and goals. He has it all as a player and is starting to really show it now.

Comparing 2025 Curtin to 2017 Lynch is disrespectful to Lynch. Curtain is just finding his feet in the AFL. 2017 Lynch was unlucky not to make the AA team.

Regarding Fog's ceiling, whether he's hit it is probably not relevant, if the team is playing better, forward entries are better, Fog will play better. He may have hit his ceiling for our previous team level, and if we'd stayed at that quality he might have never gotten better than this, but he will benefit from someone actually kicking to his leads.

The problem with our side is that we have so many good goal scorers. This means that they take goals from each other. Good for the team, but not for the forwards who want to win the Coleman.
This is definitely not a problem as makes us less predictable.

It means is is going to be difficult for the opposition to cover all out forwards, so we can target which forwards are on top.

Fogarty needs to get serious about the stockiness and how that might affect his movement late in his career.

If I think of someone like Hawkins who Fog plays a little bit like, as soon as Hawkins lost mobility he was finished.

I mean he did play until he was 36..... You'd be pretty happy with that.

Nah I can’t see it, he’s a damn good 2nd foil to RT but he’s still a 2nd foil. Already 25, too

He’ll hit 50 a couple of times, you’d think

"already 25". So years before most key forwards reach their performance peak?

Not sure if anyone heard the in interview with ANB a couple of weeks ago on AA breakfast but they asked who surprised him the most in terms of players not being what he expected.

He mentioned Fog straight away. Always had this perception of him being this intense, without down the line footy dude. Apparently he is completely the opposite off the field. A real larikan around the club and one of the most jovial blokes in the team.

Like Froggy said, how can you not love him.

FWIW, I reckon he's got more improvement left in him still. Will be a direct beneficiary of our more nuanced forward entries going forward.

And not playing second fiddle to Tex any more.

It's also a bit backwards, but it feels like he's a number two forward who might tend to kick more goals than the number one?

A bit like how Daniel Bradshaw would kick as many/more than Jonathon Brown from time to time.

Helps when you take almost every chance

I’d say it’ll be pretty match up dependent. On the weekend TT had McKay whereas Fog had a really undersized Reid, so it makes sense to kick it to him more often.

Let’s say we’re playing the Hawks and Sicily is on Fog with Barass on TT (I’d assume) it probably makes more sense for him to roam a bit more and try and keep Sicily out of the 50.

Obviously there’s the extra weapon of Walker, but I like how we’re using him as more of a complementary piece up the ground. I feel like he’ll be much easier to replace that way (although we will miss his field kicking).

I think he is physically and mentally at the peak of his game but we havent seen it due to him playing a removed role due to Walkers presence and Thilthorpe, plus a combination of poor game plan. We could finally see what Fog can do with a consistent focus on attacking.

That's one of the bigger things for me. Felt like in previous years we'd just go for pure numbers at a contest hoping to get something, but that hasn't really happened yet this year. Part of that would be the quicker ball movement, but we're being smarter with trying to go to 1-1 contests, rather than just "get it deep as we can" and kick to a pack to try and keep it contested and locked in.
