When you're undersized and can't take pack marks, you need to be a killer with ball in hand finding team mates and maximizing use of your disposals. While he may do this with his set shots, in open play, so often he makes the wrong decision and burns the footy.

Thought he was going to be a Dustin Martin-esque player when he was drafted, powerful, dynamic and impactful. He's become more of a Ken McGregor type player, underwhelming, can beat up on bad teams.

Not the reason you lost, but far from helping his side turn things around.

Pretty solid year for fog, I reckon he’s tailed off since his shoulder injury. Not great in finals, but who was and a lot comes down to entry.
Is the third target in the 50 and service ain’t great.

Yeah, the midfield being terrible changes the dynamic of a match.
Means you have to bring your forwards higher to get the ball to transition leaving forwards outnumbered when you do try and go forward.

And Fogarty doesn't play well under those conditions.

Improve the midfield, Fog kicks more goals.
It's that simple.

I also think he was pushing further up the ground as the season wore on, maybe the shoulder is really bad and he needed to avoid contact bo he didn’t seem keen to get into any pack contests and was often sitting off to the side and that should be his bread and butter to at least compete.

Needed to show a bit more fight and hunger the last two weeks. I get the shoulder made it hard but he didn't compete anywhere near enough. Some of those highlights they showed of him over the last two weeks were embarrassing.

Overall a solid season and hopefully he gets another finals chance to redeem himself

I didn’t see the collingwood game in full, but I feel like he just didn’t get near it rather than poor efforts of the games I’ve seen.

Fogarty's goalkicking really faded as the season progressed. Early in the year he was averaging basically an extra goal per game from the accuracy of his kicks.

Overall his accuracy for the season was still very solid. But he had dropped well below Rachele for actual accuracy vs expected accuracy, and also Pedlar depending on your threshold for statistical significance.

Note also: Dawson and Rankine's below average conversion.

If he has been carrying a shoulder injury as bad as has been speculated, that would explain a lot, including his recent inaccuracy at goal. When a usually deadly kick like Fog can't seem to hit the side of a barn, something's seriously up.

It's the usual AFC tale, playing someone injured in a final - yes, there's always the story that all players carry some kind of niggles at this end of the season, but when it seriously effects their form it's self defeating having them on the field. If he ends up having shoulder surgery now the season is over, I guess we shouldn't exactly be surprised.

I would agree if Fogarty even remotely looked like winning a contest. But he didn't at any stage in the finals. And that's not on the midfield

It's entirely possible that he, and potentially even medical staff, didn't think injury was affecting him.

To me this season reminded me of his 2023 season. He started off in tremendous form, picked up an injury, played through it for the rest of the game then missed a game or two. Then on his return his form was even better for the first few games, but atrophied dramatically as the season progressed.

I suspect there was a level of "playing through the pain" for the first few games back, over that time he unconsciously adjusts his actions to one that avoids stressing the injured area, is less painful, or has more stability/strength. By that point his "new" technique has become routine and is no longer as mechanically perfect as it was previously.

But the 3 headed monster?

Invented by the Victorian media to fill us full of bathwater before finals.

And as much as coach thumb head would like us to think we didn't. It was sculled down by the bucket full.

One needs to be more nimble and mobile imo, whoever replaces Tex
Agreed, would love Fog to slim down a bit and see if he can improve his mobility and lateral movement next season.

Then spend the summer studying tape of how Gunston leads and creates time
and space for himself.

We kicked like 50 points in both finals. Of course it's on our midfield.

Have you looked at how well FOG has performed when Tex is out?

Also - this is such a bullshit notion.

In FOG's first 9 games he kicked 25 goals.

During this time Walker averaged 1.8 goals a game.

In FOG's next 15 games he kicked 16 goals.

During this time Walker averaged 1.6 goals a game.

FOG is a hot and cold player.

In 2022 - he was terrible at the start of the season - but finished really strong in the 2nd half.
In 2023 - He started out amazing and then dropped off.
In 2024 - He started out off, got hot for half a season and then dropped off at the end.
In 2025 - He started out off and then was pretty invisible for the 2nd half of the season.

It has nothing to do with Walker and everything to do with FOG.

The form switches often seem to correlate with him picking up some sort of injury, which then last for extended periods. Which isn't to excuse it. He doesn't seem to be able to overcome being banged up.
