Its amazing how we supporters all want players from other clubs for nothing. Hawthorn have shown they are prepared to pay what some consider overs for targetted players with significant sucess.

I personally think giving up our pick10/11 for Gardiner and getting back 21 or similiar would be a reasonable deal ! But if Brisbane are intrested in any of our fringe players eg Gilbert, Templeton, Minchinton etc Im sure the clubs could find some common ground.

Wouldn't be the worst idea for Brisbane to let him go if they can get a sub-30 pick for him. They've got a plethora of young talls and are only bringing more in. Another pick in that 25 range would be great for their recruiters.

Actually a bit light on for tall defenders. Two retired this year (Merrett and Clarke) two rookie talls were delisted (Paine and Beasley) and one will miss next year with injury (Skinner). Losing Gardiner would be a horrible result.

Young tall forwards are a different story after the 'Who wants to be the next Jon Brown' contest we have been running for the past five or six years.

Gardiner is listed at 194cm but seems undersized as a key defender to me which is a problem because he offers little on the rebound.

Still it's a good retain for Brisbane because if he comes good as a no 1 defender then they don't have to worry about key position players at either end for a long time.

He's still only 21 so there's a good chance that his average performances have as much to do with playing on more developed forwards and the fact that Brisbane's midfield pressure is non-existent makes it impossible for any defender.
