Did they not try playing Gawn predominantly forward in games? I'll never forget that prelim they played in Perth when he kicked 5 and the crowd had a Gawny chant going
Gawn doesn't really play forward, he just roams and gets favourable match-ups, usually forward but sometimes back if Melbourne are struggling.
 
We struggle to hold on to players as is. If a player as important as Darcy wants to stay we pay him - unless he wants a ridiculous contact e.g. the offer made to Naughton by the Swans

it's easy for me. Mid season when Darcy and LJ played together and LJ had warmed up to the team, we beat the top 3 teams at the time convincingly and even away. Our structure forward of TAJ at each line, looked hot. It worked very well. IMO, Darcy is integral and worth the $$
TAJ structure is mobile and young.

Jackson is 22, Amiss 20 and Treacy 21. That group can stay together for 10 years.
