He's a useful and (as his excellent one-on-one defensive job showed this week) versatile player. He might become a good player, and he might even become a very good player.
Personally I can't see any similarity in style between him and any of our premiership players.

The comparisons will make more sense when he actually moves into the middle

I think so too. Haven't seen anything from Lang that has made me think he'll make it. But again, I haven't seen him play a significant part on the ball where I suspect is his most suited position.

Corey is bigger, stronger, better inside and IMO had a much higher ceiling than Lang has. Lang can be a player but it won't ever be similar to Joel Corey IMO. I don't think he's a particularly good tackler and quite frankly I don't think he's hard at it.
He's pretty different to Corey IMO. Corey was bigger and heavier, Lang certainly smaller but far more agile. Better goal-sense, too. Lang reminds me more of Stokes in how he plays.

Stokes had average awareness when he played midfield. He was very much a get ball and kick ball away type. Lang tends to get the ball and wait, even if it means he gets pinned for holding the ball for taking too long to assess his options. Kelly is probably closest to his style at an early age but Kelly didn't quite show the poise that Darcy did after 15-20 games either.

Very promising talent. Looks like a computer tech and not an athlete but once he gets on the field, he's a class act.

That's right, kelly showed even more poise in his first 15-20.

Not sure whether there is a love thread for Darcy, but I am liking what I see. Good decision making, clutch goals and lots of little one percenters. He is definitely a keeper.

Been waiting for this thread to pop up, so thank you.

None of the comparisons seem quite right, but Lang is surely playing himself into a genuine best 22 position, in a very crowded forward/mid role that also accommodates Motlop, Menzel, Caddy and McCarthy. Wells seems to have had trouble, oddly enough, with higher picks but if Lang rminds me of any one it is Thurlow: low key but classy with the ball by hand and foot; composed; tough (without being bullocking), and with a really nice eye for a goal. I will be astonished if he doesn't play a lot of games for us.

Seem to be jumping the gun a bit opening a toast thread for a player who's going okay but nothing more.

As others have pointed out, he "may" become a very good player with more experience, but there's no guarantee he will. Doesn't seem to have one genuine weapon in his arsenal, not overly quick for someone of his size and seems to get lost in heavy traffic quite often, also goes missing for long periods during games, does have good skills when he finds space though and can sniff out a goal.

Bit gobsmacked at the comparisons with Corey, one a contested possession beast and the other very average in that area, can see absolutely no similarities between the pair whatsoever.

Early on, until he broke his leg I thought kelly was going to be the pick of ablett, Bartel, Johnson et al.

I know it was only 1 game but if ever you are going to put your best foot forward the time to do it is in a cut-throat final when the heat is on.

24 disposals at 87%, 10 marks and 6 tackles was an amazing return from a guy who had been out of the senior side for a number of weeks as well as dealing with injury during that time.

I'm fairly biased when it comes to this bloke but I thought he turned in a terrific game for a guy apparently told "thanks but no thanks."

Wowee.
The kid certainly has talent.
Still not sure where his best position is
But he showed such composure last night, tackled well and played his role superbly...

I was really shocked at the ESPN article - apparently they are not the best source of info - so hopefully its just shit.

Players take time to develop. It would seem stupid to keep Cowan this long and then get rid of Lang.

Lang is 3 times what Cowan is.

Great game from him and hope he backs it up this week.

GO Catters

Pick 16 in the draft too, one of our highest for some time.Kids with his class don't grow on trees. We must keep him and Bews and completely forget about Devon Smith if it's his selection that gets rid of Darcy.
His game on Friday night will certainly elevate his notability and respect for potential suitors, but I want him as a keeper.

... well, let's go further back - I raise you a Shayne Breuer?

That's because he was the pick of them - he was excellent. Mobile, goalkicking, dynamic. He, Christensen and Spriggs were three brilliant starters who had promising Geelong careers changed through injury.
