I would switch Moore to defence, Swing Ben Reid forward.

Too much pressure on Moore and is a very capable defender.

We need a more mature body in the goal square, not a kid who isn't ready to lead a forward line and an american import who's played the game for literally 5 minutes.

We have some serious issues up forward, our forward entry style is more suited to a traditional big bodied FF like a Cloke..

We either need to put a player like Reid up there or open our forward line up completely and try and create faster entries for Fas/Mayne/Elliott.

Playing Moore Back would really hurt his Development as a Forward

Like Carlton playing Weitering forward would hurt his development as a defender?

Believe it or not you can actually learn to be a forward by playing as a defender and vice versa. Playing on someone that has good leading patterns for example, and learning how to defend them can actually make a player a better forward, it's like knowing your opponents game plan.

Then there's also this, what if he goes to defence and excels..?

I'm not sure we need to pigeon hole Moore as a forward, i'm certainly not convinced it's his best position yet.

No he didn't. Cox was great in the ruck.

Yeah I dunno if i'd go with great...let's just say he was encouragingly good. the big knock on him continues to be his marking, he gets the first touch time and again but spills the pill. hopefully just a question of confidence. on a positive note I reckon his ground work gave him at least three 'goal assists'.

That little flick behind him along the ground showed pretty good awareness for someone of his experience.

I was referring to his work at center bounces and nothing else. Certainly he does not do enough yet in the air around the ground. Given the mobility of White and Moore, I believe we should continue to play him.

OK yep...fair call. center bounces he usually gets first touch...we just need to figure out how to take maximum advantage..

Nick Riewoldt also spent a fair bit of time early on at CHB and turned into one of the best CHFs to ever play the game.

I was worried about Moore in the pre season games and still am. He has got ahead of himself IMO, DeGoey style. He is meant to be our Key Forward but has no size, did he even pick up a weight in the off season? Sides have figured out he needs a running jump at the ball and are blocking it, his marking on the lead is poor but that can be fixed if he wants to pull his head out of his arse and do the hard work.

He needs to get stronger, he needs to work harder and he needs to realize he is not that good.

That said our lack of system going forward would make it hard. Our game plan is utterly putrid, every goal we get is paid for in blood whilst the opposition conga line into their goal square.

I think if you compare pics of him this year with last you'll see he has obviously been working in the gym...much increased muscle definition. And of course big muscles don't always equate to strength... realistically without chemicals Darc isn't ever gonna be 'big' like Trav/Jon Brown/Tex Walker etc....and if he could it would rob him of pace and spring...we simply gotta make sure we kick the ball to him so he can use his natural talents, oh and have umps pay what looked like a dead set mark in final quarters..

He looks like he has put on more muscle. Unfortunately 3 disposal errors from him in the last qtr probably cost us any chance of winning, just as Blair's errors in the first qtr got us off to a bad start. You are right about that last qtr mark - it did seem like he was robbed by the umpire.

I think Moore has so much flexibility as a player, so I'd love to see him push back defensively if he isn't getting into the game as a forward. He also has capacity to be an exciting ruckman at 200cm with a huge leap and great ground level ability.

I don't think we need to complicate it for him at the moment, and I'm happy to just let him keep working on his craft as a forward. But I also think he has had a really quiet pre-season and looked short of confidence in round 1. So perhaps giving him a run on the ball or across half back to get him into the game could work well.

I'd drop Cox personally and let Darcy and Jessie pinch-hit in the ruck. I wouldn't want him doing too much ruck work because he is still a very skinny player, but a run on the ball couldn't hurt him.

No doubt. And both those guys had plenty of mates in the 'oh dear, I've just kicked the ball straight down a bulldog throat'... It's just that Blairy has been doing it for so long it gets up people's noses...

Our entries inside 50 were the issue. Not Moore - when we get some quality ball users in the side like Wells and Broomhead and support Moore with Elliot we will be better

I think people need to give the doggies more credit. Poor entries I believe where more a result of pressure on the ball carrier than poor exercution. Not sure Well or Broomhead would have made much difference.

Had he not been ridiculously robbed of a mark up forward, he could easily have outscored both Cox and Cloke combined.

... so there's that.

I would Prefer Moore going into Ruck as I think he could move around quite well and get Involved. Showed some good Taps with the few times he went into the Ruck in his Rookie Season

Moore already getting the Cloke Treatment;)

I think Moores performance is a symptom of our overall forward line.

I really think we are far too top heavy and not mobile enough to suit our gameplan. Are congested fwd line will only work if everyone is constantly running amd creating space for each other - that doesnt work with 3 talls.

Best thing for a forward is to spend time down back to understand how the defence will try and counter you.
We did it with Faz.
Is he better for that experience?
I think so.

Did't Moore Start at the Club as a Defender?

Moore is not setting the world on fire but then again, it is round one and it was against the reigning premiers. Will give him at least two more weeks before I declare we should trade him for draft picks!

Yeah because we should take our best forward and play him in the backline

You would have a point if he was our best forward currently, fact is, he currently is not.

He just has the best potential, it is another development year for Moore and he is likely to be hot and cold.
Having him spend some time down back and swapping with Reid when he is running cold up forward can help both him and us.
