Perhaps the more important question is why was Moore retained when White clearly out-performed him?

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/...d1=1793&tid2=5&pid2=4023&type=A&fid1=S&fid2=S

Maybe the selectors just wanted to put a rocket up White about some issues with his consistency and attack on the footy, while expectation on Moore were so much lower in his first season.

From memory Bucks came out on 360, it was something around not meeting his KPI's, possibly to do with attack on the contest

Stop jumping to ridiculous conclusions man. Come on, you know thats not what he meant.

That how I took it. Him saying that there was not Much Difference in Style of Play with Moore and Stanley

Well Grundy had 7 late Games and Played Really Well. In Fact we De-Listed Jolly because of that Performance but then Grundy in his 2nd Season was In and out of the Side. So what you call that?

I not saying he won't Improve but Teams will have more Info on Him.

Hopefully Moore keeps going from Strength to Strength
I'm not sure what Grundy has to do with Darcy, Dave.
As you said, Grundy played 7 late games, and was such a standout that he replaced a dual premiership ruckman as the number 1 ruck in a team that made finals. All coming off limited preseason and a fairly severe back injury. If that's not a standout debut season I don't know what is.

Moore on the other hand, replaced your favorite whipping boy in White. Whist it's a good effort for a first year key forward, and better than most his size, he was largely innefectual (Bulldogs game aside) and whilst his effort couldn't be questioned, his season overall would be regarded as solid without being outstanding. It's hardly a lofty platform to come down from to have second year blues.

As I said, with another preseason of strength training under his belt, and fully dedicated to training as a forward rather than defender, I'd be concerned if we didn't see any improvement from him next year.

You need to have a standout first season to get second year blues Dave. Whilst Darcy had a solid debut season, he still only played less than 10 senior games, and he wasn't all that effective aside from the Bulldogs game.

If he didn't improve next year even slightly, with another preseason under his belt as a tall, it would be seriously concerning.

He suffered a hamstring injury just at the point where he would have been selected and then took 8-10 weeks for his next opportunity

There's a fair bit of difference between Stanley and Moore. One sees ball gets ball....the other runs around trying to "dominate" without touching the ball that much and then gets himself injured. I don't actually want to compare young Darce to anyone else just yet. Having met the young man the most impressive things about him are his desire to succeed and his willingness to listen, to evaluate and to improve in every session.

There's no doubt that Jessie Hogan is a bull FF. But that's what the huge full backs love. A marking contest where they just have to bring the ball to ground or a two on one contest. Most full backs hate (yes you read it here) HATE having a running player assigned to them at FF. They start calling for chop outs when he leads, they follow in behind the quick leading FF's because they can't chop arms, they can't hold or impede and they genuinely can't keep up.

Jesse Hogan is not Jono Brown, Tony Lockett, Ablett snr or Dermott Brereton....he doesn't intimidate (yet). Until he does, then he can't be compared to any of them any more than Darcy Moore can be compared to his old man. Hogan might become a Dunstall type if his team mates can be taught to deliver the ball properly to him....lottsa variables there though. So it's interesting that Moore is even being mentioned in the same breath with a guy that plays one position only (compared to Moore's versatile future) and who is physically mature compared to Darcy's 2-3 year plan to get there.

I think in 10 years time we'll be saying both Moore and Hogan had great careers. But the journey there is going to be an interesting comparison.

So because he got injured it somehow makes his performances later in the year better?

I can see what you're saying Timmy, but it doesn't really affect the point I'm trying to make...

But how does that justify you saying he thinks hes "super overrated". He didn't, they are similar players, who use their athletic skills to play, Moores probably already better but they are similar.

I think Bucks even said he was so close Debuting on Anzac Day and Would of the next week IF he did not do his Hammy same weekend at VFL Level at Windy Hill

Never mind the fact he was on the verge of selection as a KPD despite Marsh being streets ahead at the time. It would have been a poor move...

I was more pointing to your comment that he only played ten games. Take away the untimely injury and it easily have been 16 or more.

Given most people were predicting he'd spent all year in the twos and also given he was asked to do a fair bit of rucjwaork....plus given a bag of five in his third game he's had an excellent debut year

I know what you're saying, but ultimately we can only judge Darcy on the games he did play, not the ones he might have.

I agree he has had a very good debut year for a key forward, but would you class it as outstanding? Would you be unconcerned if he went backwards a bit next year?

I know I would, and that's the point I'm making. Darcy had a good debut year, and I'm not trying to diminish that, but it wasn't an outstanding debut like Grundy, or an amazingly consistent year like Aish in 2014, both players whom had legitimate claims to second year blues after outstanding debut years.

I think we should all be expecting improvement from Moore next year. Not neccessarily amazing improvement, but if he can develop his ability to find the footy a bit more consistently I'll be happy.

Very good Point that Moore does not need Massive Improvements but need to show some. Which I be super surprised IF he did not

Darcy will work hard, learn, improve etc
He'll be ok no doubt

Until then enjoy the ride

So you say Moore got Games because of his Name?

****ed if I know Dave. One things for sure his form at VFL didn't demand selection and the fact he spent the first 8 weeks of the season down back was bizarre!

Ultimately the issue is more about our desire to hand out debuts like candy as opposed to making them really earnt.

Rand corp or reverse vampires probably had something to do with it too.
I think it was more Omnicorp. It explains Presti's turning circle. That and why he shot bad guys in the dick...I, I may have gotten sidetracked.
