No. I got Sean there in 1998.

Nobby took myself, his brother Mick, Jason Maloney, David Platschinda, David Buhagiar, Alan Wright, Ronnie McKechen and a couple of others that I cant remember now.
Moloney an under achiever. MIck was good for his height but not a patch on his brother. Wrighty has been good value at most clubs he's been at. Budgie give me the shits. Platschinda was ok.

Whats your name?

Olmate, you're not seriously trying to say Cora Lynn and Catani spend more money on players than Nilma are you?

Mate you are an absolute smasher. Neither of those teams has tried to buy a flag in one year with 15 new players, thats the difference and the point hawk sale is making. You clowns cant wrap your simple brains around it!!

And if what you say is the case Catani must have a huge money tree out the back to be able to play 8 or 9 finals series in a row with a few flags thrown in along the way. Nothing to do with being a good club, commitee and coach. w***er!!

No, the point Hawk Sale is trying to make is that Sale lost 5 players to Nilma Darnum and 2 to Heyfield, a couple elsewhere. After winning the flag last year, they finished near the bottom of the ladder and were a massive failure and it is sour grapes towards the clubs that they feel caused this. The players that played with the guys that left wish Nilma Darnum all the best and hope they win the flag, whereas, the people who don't really know them personally resent the fact they have moved on and want Nilma Darnum to fail.

so what everyone is saying is no one is ever allowed to recruit to become competitive or they will get bagged out?

Yeah, you are only ever allowed to play people that played junior sport at your club. Didn't you know that is an unwritten rule.

Well, actually, the rule is:
If a club recruits heavily, and looks like being a flag threat, they are buying a flag (which is bad). If they recruit, and and look like being competitive, they are "having a crack" (which is good). If a club doesn't recruit, and aren't competitive, they are a laughing stock (which is bad), but, if their average age of their senior side is under 25 and they are mainly made up of juniors from the club, they are giving the kids a go (which is good).

Mate, it is a complicated formula!!!

In reality, I say, in country football, people move all the time, with work/uni/family all factors to contend with. It is tough to plan for the future too much, as who knows what factors outside of football may effect each individual player. I say, the best way to go, is do every within your power to win the next game you are due to play. If you are filled with super talented locals and don't need to recruit/pay anyone, fantastic, if you have money and the ability to recruit and pay players, great as well.

In 20 years time, no one is gunna care what the average wage of the side was, they are just gunna care who won the flag. And, that is that.

In 20 years time when there is no club left to have a reunion it is bad, and when players dont even remember each other cos they only played 18 games together, thats bad. No problem with recruiting but ya gotta look after the club in the long run, what happens at darnum when patto leaves? Thats could be the problem.

That is funny Axe man considering the Dusties this year are known as the Darno's apprentice.

T'was but a joke stinger, nothing to do with either Dusties or Darnum.
But since you brought it up, unfortunately we do not have a generous benefactor like Darnum and perhaps some other clubs. That's the difference. Good luck to them though, hope they have invested wisely.

Yeah, it's unbelievable isn't it. Most people are talking as if all these guys have only been at Darnum in 2009. They nearly had Mal Michael in November 2006, but he decided to sign a 2 year deal with Essendon, eventually going to Darnum this year. I watched there last game against Cora Lynn and they had 10 players that have been there the past few seasons being Bayliss, Cann, Toporowski, Scerri, Hughes, O'Hara, Olney, Youngman and Weller. Then there was Chandler out injured who will come back into the side, that makes 11. That's half the side so the argument of buying that side in one year is incorrect isn't it? These players were brought in 2 to 3 years ago to enable them to get competitive, once they got competitive, they built on that with the players such as Michael, (who incidentally could of had 3 years ago), Quirk, K. Martin, B. Martin, Mooney, Aurisch, Ivey, Morgan and Lacunes. I would call that a good recruiting campaign over 3 years. And who says that the above mentioned players are leaving at the end of the Patterson era! Look at any of the top 4 sides left in the competition and I'm sure you will find there is not alot of players that have been at their respective club for 4 years or more. Just off head at Cora Lynn, how long has the following players been there? Hall, Bradshaw, Duiker, O'Hara, Christopher, Dwyer, Joe Allen, Jack Allen, Ryan Davey, Giuliano, Ingram, Hughes, Sheen and Donaldson! How many of those great players have been at Cora Lynn for longer than 4 years? They were all recruited over a period of time to win a premiership, they have done that and could again. People need to look at the actual stats before saying that a particular team is buying a flag within 12 months, because after looking at the lists from Round 18, I think they are terribly wrong!

valid point, i think some of the locals at cora lynn are a bit upset about Duiker and Giuliano strutting in and taking spots
