Player Watch Darrean Wyatt (Delisted 2016)

Looked good in his first game, I would like to see him build on that as he didn't have a consistent impact. But if he can improve a little bit each week maybe in 10-12 weeks he maybe in contention for the senior side

I think he athletically looks good but otherwise appears fairly clueless out on the ground.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but I won't be holding my breath.

Be as harsh as you like, I want everyone's opinions, both positive and negative.

From what I can see so far judging by everyones comments, it looks as if he is a long way off, but at the same time looks more comfortable than Cox did at this time last year. Will be interesting to see if that's because he actually has talent as a footballer, or because he has a familiarity with the game already, having grown up with it.

At least he seems to be kicking a goal or two per game, which is already more productive than Mr Potato Man (aka Corey Gault) has been for the past 4 and a bit years.

Should play him in defence. Having defenders standing around cluelessly is the new black. Though, I'm sure he needs to lift his effort whilst standing around cluelessly.

I'm sure he could man up a patch of grass with the best of them.

I'll stick by my comment that in 12 months he'll be the second best ruck we have on our list (behind Grundy for you Witts lovers).

He's obviously played some football before he decided to concentrate on basketball, he just looks more natural than Cox or McNamara did, and yes I know Darrean (what is with that name?) is an Australian and not an American.

Personally I've seen very little of him in the ruck so I can't comment on that. But I'm afraid I have to disagree that he will be better than Cox in 12 months as a forward. While he does look more natural and he is definitely more athletically gifted than Cox, I'm just not convinced by what I've seen so far. He does have a good goal sense but I can't see him improving as quickly as what Cox has.

This post will probably make me look stupid in 6-12 months but at this stage he will be battling to be on our list in 12 months time let alone being our second best ruck.

A side note. This is a strange post for me since usually I am all over our category B rookies. Hopefully Wyatt gives me a reason to jump on the bandwagon and forget I was ever not on it ;)

Don't worry, it's a comment that will probably more likely bite me on the arse that anyone who criticises me for it, but I've never seen a 200cm + player take on a man on the mark and run around him so easily as Wyatt did in a VFL practice match.

Once he learns his craft the sky really is the limit for this kid, while I reckon Cox has a limit and he's almost reached it already.

Happy to take criticism on this one though.

Another 3 goals this week. Call me crazy, but is another cat B rookie quickly surpassing Corey 'he needs more time' Gault?

A wooden fence post has surpassed Corey Gault.

But yeah, he had a good second quarter on Saturday.

Certainly benefited from having an All Australian CHF in the team opening up space for him to play around in. Can only assume Wyatt was the brains behind the decision to drop him. Cheeky bugger...

You're crazy, man, quit talking crazy.

Nah he seems to be doing alright, certainly ahead of Gault at a similar stage!

He has serious jet speed for a man of his size that Cox hasn't got (but not the same endurance as Cox). Just have to harness it and get games of footy into his legs as he has trouble adjusting where to run on a football field and is constantly being rotated as he can't keep up. Will take a while to get it right, but once he does we will have a player who can play in one of the key positions (CHF or CHB) for the cost of a rookie post.

Be fair Gualt has missed the last 3 games with concussion. He got KOed in the first quarter against Casey and hasn't been seen since.
He's being hidden by the club so when they try to trade him at the end of the year other clubs just remember his NAB form and not his senior AFL shitness :drunk:
