Darren Bradshaw (born 5 November 1980) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Bradshaw joined Brisbane from Wodonga, during their run of three successive premierships. As a result he found it difficult to break into the team, playing his first and only AFL game when his brother and fellow forward Daniel Bradshaw was omitted. In a win over Richmond at Docklands, Bradshaw had just three disposals and was delisted at the end of the year.

At West Adelaide in 2003, Bradshaw kicked 88 goals after the home and away season to win the Ken Farmer Medal and booted 97 goals in total, after appearing in a Grand Final loss to Central District. He also won West Adelaide's 'Best and Fairest' award.

Coach Leigh Matthews acknowledged Darren's enormous talent, but believed his height was against him if he were to play as a marking forward. While Daniel's height of 191 centimetres has enabled him to play key roles in attack and defence in three premiership campaigns, Darren is 185 centimetres.

The Lions delisted him at the end of the 2002 season, prompting a move to West Adelaide. "I wanted to play at the next level down from the AFL," he said.

At West Adelaide, Bradshaw was a standout success. His 100-kilogram frame was too strong for opposition full-backs, enabling him to hold them out and mark the ball one-handed, and he was quick over the opening five metres. His tackling also earned huge praise, but it was his accuracy that proved most important.

Footy star pleads guilty
03 Jun, 2009 12:17 PM

STAR Wodonga full-forward Darren Bradshaw has escaped a conviction after a drunken struggle with police outside his ex-girlfriend’s home in January. The Bulldogs player pleaded guilty at Wodonga Magistrates Court yesterday to one count of resisting police after six other charges, including aggravated burglary, were withdrawn in April.
Magistrate Reg Marron heard Bradshaw had been drinking alcohol all day on January 2 before going to his ex-girlfriend’s Wodonga home that night in the hopes of reconciling.
Bradshaw was rebuffed and police responded just after 10.30pm after receiving reports of noise coming from the home.
The footballer taunted officers from inside the house.
He eventually came out peacefully but police chose to handcuff him because of his size.
Bradshaw reacted violently, swinging his arms around, and it took about three police officers and a dose of capsicum spray to subdue him.

Bradshaw, one of the league’s most dangerous power forwards in his prime, is set to play in Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields Football League, while Eames will join the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League outfit Frankston YCW.Bulldogs assistant coach Robbie Jackson said yesterday the club wished Bradshaw all the best in his move west.
“We didn’t try to talk him out of it, I think a move to WA will be good for him,” Jackson said.
“We wish him all the best ... he’s been a great player for us.
“He only played a couple of games last year so it won’t affect us that much ... Guy Telford has been chomping at the bit to play forward so he’ll get a chance up there.”

Bulldog selectors finally ran out of patience with Bradshaw after the key forward failed to kick a goal against North Albury last weekend and managed only two and one against Wodonga Raiders and Albury respectively.

It was the second time Bradshaw has been dropped this season after he was omitted for disciplinary reasons earlier in the home and away series.

Footballer handed pub ban

The brother of AFL premiership star Daniel Bradshaw has been banned from WA's pubs and clubs for five years for biting a man's ear in a drunken brawl at a Kalgoorlie restaurant.Darren John Bradshaw, 29, whose brother Daniel plays for the Sydney Swans and is a 231-game veteran of the AFL, was handed a prohibition order by director of liquor licensing Barry Sargeant banning him from entering any licensed venue in WA. Mr Sargeant said he believed the ban was in the "public interest".

Bradshaw, a former AFL player who kicked 103 goals for Boulder Football Club in the Goldfields Football League this year, pleaded guilty to charges including the unlawful wounding of a Helena Valley man when he appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrate's Court in May. The brawl occurred after Bradshaw urinated under a pool table inside Monty's restaurant in Kalgoorlie early on March 24.

Bradshaw signs with Howlong

Bradshaw, 30, has returned to the Border from Western Australia after being banned from all pubs and clubs in the state for five years after he bit a man’s ear off in a brawl at a Kalgoorlie restaurant.

Bradshaw, who became just the fourth player in the Goldfields Football League’s 114-year history to kick more than 100 goals in Western Australia this season, committed to the Spiders on Saturday.

Darren Bradshaw won the Strang Medal as a 20-year-old for Wodonga in 2000 and was put on the Brisbane Lions rookie list in 2001 after starring for Mount Gravatt and topping the league’s goal-kicking with 87 goals.

Bradshaw was the obvious choice for full-forward after becoming the first player to break the 100-goal milestone since former Spiders spearhead Shaun Myles achieved the feat in three successive years from 2005-07.
The prolific goalkicker averaged more than 5.5 goals a match and has the league abuzz with anticipation after older brother and dual Brisbane Lions premiership player, Daniel, also signed with the club for next season.

Geeze, didn't realise he had such issues outside of football.

I didn't see him much at all in the QAFL (and he didn't play a whole lot of games for the Lions in the AFL proper); do people think he would have made it if he had his brother's height?

Attitude was always slightly off but IMO, yes.
