another one circulating the rumour mill. just want to see if it actually has legs or not....

there is some talk that we are trying to snap up the big fella with our first round pick or a second round pick + a player. i would love it if this is the case and i would definitley prefer him to seaby.

what is the latest on this???

Sydney are not stupid.

he's no spring chicken anymore. will be 28 next year and will proably miss their next tilt at a flag. they could be inclined to develop their other rucks. plus, they are keen on seaby.

2nd round pick plus a half decent player wouldnt be a bad idea? :thumbsu:

why would they want a 28 year old ruckman to replace their 28 year old ruckman who is better?
.

Fraser would be the 'steaknives'. Obviously we'd give them more, e.g. 1st rounder and another good young player, maybe Dawes or something. Then Fraser could just be a short term ruck fix until they get their young ruckman up and about.

Not worth a first rounder at 28 with 3 possibly 4 good years left but we may have set a precedent with giving a first rounder for Wood, Sydney may expect that because Jolly is much better than Wood (i know Wood is younger and will develop)
So a second round pick and maybe Stanners or Cook may get it done but unlikely.

If something were to eventuate Mr Fraser would become very nervous very quickly i would imagine.

if keefe improves at the rate he has this year, you'd reckon he'd be ready to step into a role sometime at the beginning, or during the 2011 season. barring an incredible rise to prominence, another season in the VFL will be great for him, and that's fine. i think he could be a player.

This will not get the deal close to done.

Yes he would, but I imagine Wood would be just as nervous and probably moreso. If we were able to get some type of deal done then Jolly would be taking majority of the ruckwork and Collingwood would opt for a 2nd ruck who offers the most around the ground which I think Fraser does provided he is fit.

Cant say that I have seen a lot of Keeffe but I like what I see in terms of his work around the ground.

the same sydney who gave schneider and dempster to the saints for a couple of late draft picks ?

hes not young anymore...our 2nd rounder and a player would be great for us...but what would be done with fraser and wood?
who becomes the 2nd ruck option? personally i think it should be wood. so do we get rid of fraser, or keep him ?

That was different, they did to get cap relief.

I would like to get Jolly, but i am not sure what the Swans would want for him.

I also wouldn't want Jolly, Wood and Fraser on the list. If we get Jolly i would hope we trade Fraser.

i agree with you, perhaps port would be the team after him without Lade anymore and brogan getting on (though fraser isnt exactly young himself)

Wood would be nowhere near as nervous as Fraser, The kid will be coming in to his prime 2 years after Fraser is gone and he is already a better tap ruckman than Josh is now.
Fraser may be better now around the ground but in what position? gets beat in the ruck cant play forward and if he plays loose mid isnt damaging enough you tell me mate?

as much as i have defended fraser over the years to people bagging him, i think it is time for the pies to make the call on him. if we can get our hands on jolly then it is time for fraser to move on. the facts are that for 3 years running fraser has not got to the line for big finals because his body has failed him. we are moving into a period of serious flag contention and a solid ruck set up will be vital. jolly suported by wood would be a good duo.

but we shouldn't have to give the world to grab jolly - our 1st round pick should do the trick. he is no spring chicken and we would effectively be handing sydney a potential 10-15 year kid in return for say 2-3 years from jolly at somewhere near his best

If we are seriously in play to get Jolly then we should move heaven and earth to land him. He is a seriously good big bodied ruckman who is sound physically and has a good 3-4 years in him.

Jolly was unwanted by anybody when traded from Melbourne to Sydney a few years back. Extra years development in Sydney and people are now suggesting that he's the answer to all our prayers, pppplllleeeaaasssseee!, a little common sense here would not go astray.

Surely we'd be better off scouring the lists of rival clubs and finding the 2009 version of a Jolly, a ruckman aged 23-24 who is not getting opporunities at his current club. Would certainly be cheaper and provide longer term benefits.

That said, my preferred option remains drafting kids and developing our own players. We have Keefe coming through and another 200+ cm player (Witts from memory) on the NSW scholarship scheme.
