For people that don't care there was an awful lot of melting over the finals setup being 'wrong' the season when the Melbourne Stars finished top but got knocked out in the semi.

Then condemnation of the Strikers for doing the same.

If I lived in Perth I would probably be quite interested in the Scorchers. They have built their team around a solid core of local players that they have retained year on year, that provides good crossover with the state teams. Makes them very easy to support if you are an existing cricket fan.

The NSW and Vic teams suck. The local players are diluted between two teams (if they play in the state at all) and there is hardly any squad continuity, and there's a bigger focus on fly-by-night international stars. I find it hard to believe any adult cricket fans have much of an attachment to any of them.

I'd question McGuire's knowledge of cricket when he's complaining about players being called up for national duty. If you can't get you're head around that most basic concept then you shouldn't be in any position of power in the game anywhere.

I don't follow BBL at all and haven't heard these comments. Surely he is taking the piss though?

I'm entertained by the big bash but at the end of the day I don't get how anyone other than kids could really feel a close connection or concern about their team and whether they win.

From the Big Bash game I went to this year the kids don't care that much anyway. For them the cricket is of secondary interest to the crowd entertainment at the games. Rather than like at the footy where the footy is the entertainment.
For me the cricket was plenty to keep me occupied but the families seemed to love stuff like dab cam and dance cam. Stuff that annoyed the hell out of me.

For people from one team towns or people who got into competition when the franchises came in its probably different. But for me my emotional investment is in the Bushrangers, and it was in Victoria back in the state T20 comp.

Sure I love seeing the Stars and Renegades win and I feel the excitement when the game is on, but the passion is just not there yet. Some might call it sour grapes since Victoria used to win the old Big Bash all the time but that's how I feel.

It is what it is. A good way to pass the time on a summers night.

His argument was why are they being called upon to sit on the sidelines and run water. When they could be playing an actual match in the BBL only a short plane trip away. Pretty valid arguments he makes, IMO.

Mark Blicavs was selected to play professional football on the back of a hunch. So was Mike Pyke, Tadgh Kennelly etc

Is football a laughing stock?

Lets be honest in every professional environment people are selected on a hunch. We are all inherently seduced by the potential of individuals such that we can ignore defects in their skills, personalities if we think they can develop into something rare.
