Mick Malthouse may think that CC is under pressure, but more likely he is trying to deflect the pressure that he is under. Having taken the strongest squad and degraded it over here, he has done a similar thing with Coolingwood. He has demonstrated that he is such a poor list manager and recruiter of players that his credentials as a "supercoach" must be questioned.

As for his comments regarding recruiting Harvey, what Malthouse could benefit from is a few less yes men, some people around him who can contribute outside of the doctrine of malthouse, someone who is able to add to the think process, not just nod agreement. In contrast, Dockers appear to have recruited exactly the right assistant for their needs.

Very amusing too to read the Magpies building in the excuses for the game in advance, especially the players they have out. Both Burns and Buckley have been terrific players, now edging to the ends of their carreers. But the Dockers are still missing what would be four of their prefered backline, as well as Headland.

I predict that Malthouse will be gone from Collingwood before Connolly is gone from Fremantle.

Gav, remember at School someone would play a trick on other kids and then when it was discovered there would something like "nyah, nyah, sucked in." Don't fall for it.

The article was called mind games and that exactly what it is. In fact it's pretty well ****** for tat after CC's darth vader comments back in 2003.

MM is just looking out for the pie supporters on bigfooty. They really need a win win situation.
Its either going to be "We won against the odds..the premireship is ours"
Or "Against impossible odds we put up an awesome showing without our stars...The premireship is ours"

Soooooooo true re his record of recruiting at the Slime and at Colon Wood.

Dunno who else has seen this. I hadn't.

Shaw gives Darth a bit of a touch up in this article.
Good on him anyway.

Shaw hits back at Malthouse
06 March 2006 Herald Sun
David Hastie

FREMANTLE football operations manager Robert Shaw says Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse should worry about his own job, and not that of Docker coach Chris Connolly.

Before yesterday's NAB Cup quarter-final, Shaw said Malthouse was under pressure to retain his job.

"What's Mick want?" Shaw asked.

"He wants the shot clock, he wants the match at night, he wants the bibs put on players because of the new rules and now he's saying that we're only fielding our strong side because Chris Connolly is under pressure because Mark Harvey has arrived in town.

"I don't think blokes should just come into town and immediately set the agenda that our coach is under pressure, when there's a fair queue this year of coaches that might be."

Shaw said Collingwood chief executive Greg Swann, president Eddie McGuire and football manager Neil Balme would not accept another below-par performance from the team in 2006.

"There would be no doubt in my mind that the Collingwood people wouldn't really be standing for the last couple of years," Shaw said.

"I would have thought there's pressure on quite a few coaches . . . there's pressure on Michael Malthouse this year more than any other coach in the AFL.

"Can the bloke please just mind his own business and worry about getting his own side out of the bottom four."

After Fremantle's win yesterday, Connolly said: "Every AFL coach is under pressure, that's how it is. It's how you respond to that pressure and we look forward to every challenge."

Shaw also attacked Malthouse for his public criticism of the AFL's rule changes.

Dunno if this has legs.

Hope not, we have a game of footy this week.

Good post Gav ;

Malthouse record at Collingwood is quite dismal considering they were runners up twice ....

His record at Collingwood is ;

GAMES:138
Wins : 63
Losses : 75
Win % 45.65

The media go soft on him , but listening to some talk back callers on radio , some collingwood fans are starting to ask the questions ....His deflection tactics are sickening , and maybe at his press conferences the media should just ask him " Mick what do you want to talk about today?"

He cant entice high profile recruits to Collingwood .
besides , Cummings , Rintoul , Morrison ..

And his title as a Supercoach in some media circles is quite laughable ...

Mick , will have use all of his diversion tactics this season ...:thumbsd:
