Anyone know how many cigarettes I can bring back to Australia from the US? And how I go about it? Thanks.

EDIT: used to be 100 individual cigs or 100 grams of tobacco...

As of July 1 this year:
From 1 July 2017, you can bring 25 grams of tobacco in any form (cigarette, loose leaf, etc.), equivalent to approximately 25 cigarettes, plus an open packet, for each traveller 18 years or older.

You can either purchase individual packets or a carton in duty free. If you buy individual packs and want to try your luck getting them all through customs, spread them all throughout your checked and carry on bags and don't declare them. If you get caught, best case scenario is they confiscate the excess and send you off with a warning (play dumb) or you get a good bloke who lets you keep them. Worst case is you receive a fine or pay the tax on the tobacco but I doubt that would happen unless you had an entire suitcase full.

Load up a suitcase with whatever you want. When you head in, say you have something to declare. Go in and say you've stayed on a farm, might be some material left on your shoes.

They grab your shoes and give them a clean, won't even bother looking in your bag.

Works every time for me.
